Jeremy Suter

Jeremy Suter (born in London) is an English organist and choral director. He was a chorister under Sir William McKie at Westminster Abbey. He attended Harrow and later spent two years at the Royal College of Music before going to Oxford as Organ Scholar of Magdalen College under Bernard Rose. Following a year at the University of Pennsylvania, Jeremy was invited to return to Magdalen College, Oxford, in order to direct the Chapel Choir whilst Bernard Rose took a sabbatical. In 1975 he was appointed Organist of the Civic Church of All Saints', Northampton and Director of Music at All Saints' Middle School. Between 1981 and 1991 he was Assistant Organist at Chichester Cathedral and Director of Music at the Prebendal School. He featured on many broadcasts and recordings made by the Choir of Chichester Cathedral. Since taking up his appointment in 1991 as Master of the Music at Carlisle Cathedral [1] Jeremy has been enhancing the reputation of the Cathedral Choir. Jeremy has been appointed Director of Music of Abbey Singers from January 2001.

Jeremy retired in April 2017. His successor at Carlisle Cathedral is Mark Duthie.

The Choir of St John's College, Cambridge is part of the English cathedral tradition, having been founded to sing the daily liturgy in the College Chapel, though it is set apart from other English choirs of this tradition by the frequent inclusion of Continental works in its repertoire and its emphasis on polyphonic interpretations. Alongside the choir of King's College, Cambridge, it is one of the two most famous collegiate choirs in Cambridge, having had over 90 recordings published. Sir William Neil McKie was an Australian organist, conductor, and composer. He was Organist and Master of the Choristers at Westminster Abbey 1941–1963 and noted for his direction of the music for the marriage of Princess Elizabeth in 1947, and later her Coronation in 1953.

The Southern Cathedrals Festival is a five-day music festival held in rotation among the English cathedrals of Chichester, Winchester and Salisbury, in the penultimate week of July. The festival was restored in 1960 after initial attempts to create the annual occasion were followed by 28 years without it. The respective director of music acts as festival director when it is that cathedral's turn to host the event.
