Geraldine "Jeri" Muoio (born February 14,1948 [1] ) is an American politician who served as Mayor of West Palm Beach,Florida from 2011 to 2019. [2] [3] [4]
Muoio is a resident of Old Northwood in West Palm Beach. [2] She holds a doctorate in academic administration from Syracuse University and a master's degree from SUNY Oswego.
She served as the city commissioner of West Palm Beach before her election as Mayor of West Palm Beach in March 2011. [2] She has been described as the "hand-picked successor" of outgoing Mayor Lois Frankel,who left office due to term limits after two consecutive terms. [2]
Muoio won 51.2% of the vote in the 2011 West Palm Beach mayoral election held on March 8,2011. [2] [5] Most political observers had predicted that the crowded,four-way mayoral race would result in a runoff election. [2] [5] However,Muoio won the election with a majority,avoiding a runoff. [2] [5] She defeated three opponents - Molly Douglas,a West Palm Beach city commissioner;Paula Ryan,a housing consultant;and Charles Bantel,an electrician. [2] Muoio received 4,761 votes,or 51.2%;Paula Ryan placed second with 23.3%;Molly Douglas was third with 21.3%;and Charles Bantel came in fourth place with 4.2% of the vote. [5]

Although the office of mayor of West Palm Beach is officially nonpartisan,she was a member of the Republican Party during her tenure. Prior to holding a public office,Graham graduated with a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Florida in 1981. Moving to West Palm Beach two years later,Graham served as a member of several law firms in the 1980s in the West Palm Beach area. She was elected city commissioner in 1988 and promoted to vice mayor in 1989,but soon resigned to avoid a potential conflict of interest with her law firm. Following a brief return to private life,Graham successfully campaigned for the city's 1991 mayoral election,the first direct election for that office in several decades.

The 2023 Jacksonville mayoral election was held on March 21,2023,with a runoff held on May 16. Incumbent Republican mayor Lenny Curry was term-limited and could not seek a third term in office. Seven candidates filed to run,including four Republicans,two Democrats,and an independent. Jacksonville mayoral elections use a blanket primary system where all candidates,regardless of party affiliation,appear on the same ballot. Nonprofit founder Donna Deegan,a Democrat,and Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce president Daniel Davis,a Republican,took the top two spots in the primary election. Because no candidate surpassed 50% of the vote,Deegan and Davis advanced to a runoff.
Joel T. Daves III was an American politician and lawyer. He was appointed as the Palm Beach County solicitor in 1959 and won the election to that office in 1960. Daves declined to seek reelection in 1964,instead running for a seat in the Florida House of Representatives. He served two years as a Democratic state representative before being defeated in 1966. Attempting a political comeback,Daves ran for the United States Senate in 1970 but placed last among the five Democratic primary candidates. After over two decades of not seeking a political office,he unsuccessfully ran for mayor of West Palm Beach in 1991. He was then elected city commissioner in 1992 and mayor of West Palm Beach in 1999. Daves lost to Lois Frankel in the 2003 mayoral election.
