Gerald F. Apa (born August 18,1940) is an American former politician. He served in the South Dakota House of Representatives from 1997 to 2000,in the South Dakota State Senate from 2001 to 2008,and as mayor of Lead,South Dakota from 2014-2016. [1] [2]
Apa was County Commissioner for Lawrence County,South Dakota from 1977-1986 and 1993-1996. He was a member of the South Dakota House of Representatives from 1997-2000 and of the South Dakota State Senate from 2001-2008. In the House he served on the Local Government,Taxation,and Transportation Committees. In the Senate he served on the Approriations Committee,serving six years as chair of the committee. After serving in state politics,he lived in Lead,South Dakota and became a leader in local civic organizations. He became mayor of Lead in 2014,serving until 2016. [3] [4]

The D.C. Booth Historic National Fish Hatchery and Archives,also known as the Spearfish Fisheries Center or Spearfish Fisheries Complex and formerly known as the Spearfish National Fish Hatchery,is one of 70 fish hatcheries that were opened by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service as part of the National Fish Hatchery System. The hatchery was established near Spearfish,South Dakota in 1896,with the purpose of introducing and establishing populations of trout in the Black Hills of South Dakota and Wyoming. It is one of the oldest fish hatcheries in the United States and is the second-oldest in the American West. The hatchery spawns and releases about 20,000 to 30,000 rainbow trout each year. The hatchery doubles as a fisheries archive with the purpose of preserving records and early historical artifacts. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

John Abram Boland Sr. was an American politician and businessman from South Dakota. He was an early supporter of Mount Rushmore and served as treasurer for its construction costs between 1929 and 1938. He served as mayor of Rapid City,South Dakota,between 1924 and 1925,and as a member of the South Dakota Senate between 1929 and 1936. Boland also owned a number of stores and businesses in the area and helped oversee South Dakota's financial support for World War I. He was inducted into the South Dakota Hall of Fame in 1978.
