The president of the Republic of Suriname is,in accordance with the Constitution of 1987,the head of state and head of government of Suriname,and commander-in-chief of the Suriname National Army (SNL). The president also appoints a cabinet.
Paul Slamet Somohardjo is a Surinamese politician of Javanese descent. Somohardjo has been called Paul Salam Somohardjo since childhood. Somohardjo also owns a radio and television station.
Boven Saramacca is a resort in Suriname,located in the Sipaliwini District. Its population at the 2012 census was 1,427. The dominant geographical feature of this resort is the Saramacca River. The resort is mainly inhabited by Maroons of the Matawai tribe.
Jennifer "Jenny" Simons,married Geerlings is a Surinamese politician. On 30 June 2010,she was elected as Chairperson of the National Assembly of Suriname with 26 out of 50 votes. Simons is the second female chairman of the Surinamese Parliament. She was re-elected on 30 June 2015. She announced her retirement on 20 June 2020.
Jules Sedney was a Surinamese politician,and Prime Minister of Suriname from 20 November 1969 to 24 December 1973. In 1980,he became governor of the Central Bank of Suriname,but had to flee the country in 1983 after a dispute with Dési Bouterse. Sedney returned to Suriname in 1989.

Chandrikapersad "Chan" Santokhi is a Surinamese politician and former police officer who is the 9th president of Suriname,since 2020. After winning the 2020 elections,Santokhi was the sole nominee for president of Suriname. On 13 July,Santokhi was elected president by acclamation in an uncontested election. He was inaugurated on 16 July.

The COVID-19 pandemic in Suriname was caused by Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2. The virus was confirmed to have reached Suriname on 13 March 2020. The case was a person who travelled from the Netherlands the previous week. On 3 April 2020,one person died. On 3 May 2020,all nine cases had recovered. On 18 May,an eleventh case was identified.

Regional Hospital Wanica is a hospital in Lelydorp,Suriname. The hospital opened on 7 February 2020 in its initial stage,and serves the Wanica District. With 180 beds and 9 ICU beds,it will be a full-service hospital for the region without the need to go to Paramaribo. Antoine Elias,Minister of Health,reported that the radiology,laboratory,mortuary and emergency aid department were still under construction.
Antonio do Brinco,also Albina 2,is a garimpeiros village in the Tapanahony resort of the Sipaliwini District of Suriname. The village is located on the Lawa River,and is next to Peruano,and opposite Maripasoula in French Guiana. The village is named after Antonio with the earring who constructed the first commercial building.

Asongo Alalaparu,also Ashongo Alalaparoe,was a Granman of the indigenous Tiriyópeople in Suriname. He led the Tiriyófrom 1997 to 2021 from his residence in Kwamalasamutu. During his rule,the Tiriyóestablished new small villages in the interior of Suriname.
Theodoris Bernardus Jubitana was a Surinamese administrator and politician. He was captain of the indigenous village Hollandse Kamp since 2011. In addition,he was chairman of the Association of Indigenous Village Heads Suriname (VIDS) since 2017 and leader of the political party Amazon Party Suriname (APS) since 2019. He died in July 2021 from the effects of COVID-19.
Irene Lalji was a Surinamese lawyer and television presenter. She was involved with several publicized legal cases,in the last of which she defended former finance minister Gillmore Hoefdraad.
The 2022 Suriname floods beginning in March have affected Indigenous and Maroon settlement areas in the eastern part of Suriname. The floods were caused by the La Niña weather phenomenon,which replaced the short dry season in 2022.
