Antoine Joly (16 July 1955) is a French politician who served as ambassador to Suriname,CARICOM and Guyana from 2017 until 2021.
Joly was born in Le Mans,and graduated from Sciences Po. He started his career for the City of Paris and in 1981 became the head of the Tax and Economic Office. [2] From 28 March 1993 until 21 April 1997, [3] Joly was the deputy for Sarthe's 3rd constituency in the National Assembly. His party affiliation is RPR. From 15 July 2011 until August 2015 he served as French ambassador to Nicaragua. [4]
On 17 January 2017 Joly was appointed as the French ambassador to Suriname as well the ambassador for French Guiana to the CARICOM, [1] and non-resident ambassador to Guyana. [4]
On 24 March 2020,Joly became the eight case of COVID-19 in Suriname. [5] Joly got infected when he was in a small waiting room of Zorg en Hoop Airport together with a Dutch person who was later diagnosed positive in the Netherlands. [6] Joly was first treated at the Wanica Hospital in Lelydorp. Joly only had mild symptoms, [6] therefore he was transported to Cayenne in French Guiana on 29 March 2020,where he was quarantined. [2] On 7 April 2020 Joly recovered from COVID-19. [7] On 8 April 2020,Joly returned to Suriname to resume his duties. [8]
On 8 September 2021,Joly retired and was succeeded by Pierre Lanapats. [9] [10] During his tenure,he established the first joint police post,judicial cooperation,and helped pass a border protocol. Joly expressed his regrets that he was not able to resolve the 1891 border dispute. [9] On 6 October 2021,he was awarded the Grand Cordon of the Honorary Order of the Palm by President Santokhi. [11]

Saramacca Polder is a resort in Suriname,located in the Wanica District. Its population at the 2012 census was 10,217. And the majority of the population is of East Indian descent. The Saramacca Polder was created between 1894 and 1904. The main function was agriculture. The Commissaris Weytinghweg was built in 1906,and connects the polder with Paramaribo. Initially the area was mainly used for rice cultivation,but has become home to companies and suburban housing.

The Honorary Order of the Palm is a military and civil state decoration of the Republic of Suriname. The Order was instituted in 1975 at the independence of Suriname and replaced the Dutch Order of Orange-Nassau. It is awarded to individuals for special service in the civil or military field. The order is also eligible for foreigners. The president of Suriname is the Grand Master of the order.
Chandrikapersad "Chan" Santokhi is a Surinamese politician and former police officer who is the 9th president of Suriname,since 2020. After winning the 2020 elections,Santokhi was the sole nominee for president of Suriname. On 13 July,Santokhi was elected president by acclamation in an uncontested election. He was inaugurated on 16 July.
Netherlands–Suriname relations refers to the current and historical relations between the Netherlands and Suriname. Both nations share historic ties and a common language (Dutch) and are members of the Dutch Language Union.

The COVID-19 pandemic in Suriname was caused by Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2. The virus was confirmed to have reached Suriname on 13 March 2020. The case was a person who travelled from the Netherlands the previous week. On 3 April 2020,one person died. On 3 May 2020,all nine cases had recovered. On 18 May,an eleventh case was identified.

Jerry Slijngard is a Surinamese Army colonel and public official. In 2003,he was appointed to head the National Coordination Centre for Emergency Management (NCCR). In 2013,he was appointed to head the newly created Coast Guard.
Regional Hospital Wanica is a hospital in Lelydorp,Suriname. The hospital opened on 7 February 2020 in its initial stage,and serves the Wanica District. With 180 beds and 9 ICU beds,it will be a full-service hospital for the region without the need to go to Paramaribo. Antoine Elias,Minister of Health,reported that the radiology,laboratory,mortuary and emergency aid department were still under construction.
Antonio do Brinco,also Albina 2,is a garimpeiros village in the Tapanahony resort of the Sipaliwini District of Suriname. The village is located on the Lawa River,and is next to Peruano,and opposite Maripasoula in French Guiana. The village is named after Antonio with the earring who constructed the first commercial building.
Albert Ramchand Ramdin is a Surinamese diplomat serving as Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Santokhi cabinet since 16 July 2020. He is a member of the Progressive Reform Party (VHP).
RochéPinas,known professionally as Benjamin Faya,is a Surinamese singer. He primarily performs reggae and dancehall,and has had several number 1 hits on the Nationale Top 40 Suriname. In 2016,he won the national song competition SuriPop.
Theodoris Bernardus Jubitana was a Surinamese administrator and politician. He was captain of the indigenous village Hollandse Kamp since 2011. In addition,he was chairman of the Association of Indigenous Village Heads Suriname (VIDS) since 2017 and leader of the political party Amazon Party Suriname (APS) since 2019. He died in July 2021 from the effects of COVID-19.
Diplomatic relations between France and Suriname were established on 25 August 1976. Suriname and the French overseas department of French Guiana share a common border of 520 kilometres (320 mi). Suriname operates an embassy in Paris,a consulate in Cayenne,and an honorary consulate in Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni. France operates an embassy in Paramaribo,a consulate in Georgetown,Guyana,and an honorary consulate in Albina.
The 2022 Suriname floods beginning in March have affected Indigenous and Maroon settlement areas in the eastern part of Suriname. The floods were caused by the La Niña weather phenomenon,which replaced the short dry season in 2022.
