Jerry Wayne Smith (born December 31, 1960) [1] is an American soccer coach who is currently head coach of the women's soccer program at Santa Clara University. [2] [3] [4]
Smith began his coaching career in 1980 as head boys' soccer coach at his alma mater Homestead High School in Cupertino, California, where he was head coach for seven seasons. From 1982 to 1986, he was men's soccer assistant coach at Foothill College in nearby Los Altos and was head women's soccer coach at Foothill in 1986. [5]
After completing his bachelor's degree in kinesiology at California State University, Hayward in 1986, Smith became the head coach at Santa Clara University in 1987. [5] In 2001, he coached the Broncos to its first NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championship after defeating 17-time champion North Carolina 1–0. [6] He has coached the team to 10 West Coast Conference titles and 24 NCAA tournaments. [7]
In 2001, Smith was named head coach of the United States women's national under-21 soccer team. [8]

Smith is married to Brandi Chastain; they have a son, Jaden Chastain Smith, born in June 2006. Smith also has a son from a previous relationship, Cameron Smith. [15]
Brandi Denise Chastain is an American retired soccer player, two-time FIFA Women's World Cup champion, two-time Olympic gold-medalist, coach, and sports broadcaster. She played for the United States national team from 1988 to 2004. In her 192 caps on the team, she scored 30 goals playing primarily in the defender and midfielder positions. She scored a World Cup-winning penalty shootout goal against China in the 1999 FIFA Women's World Cup final.

Albert Anson Dorrance IV is an American soccer coach. He is currently the head coach of the women's soccer program at the University of North Carolina. He has one of the most successful coaching records in the history of athletics. Under Dorrance's leadership, the Tar Heels have won 21 of the 31 NCAA Women's Soccer Championships. The Tar Heels' record under Dorrance stood at 809-67-36 over 33 seasons at the end of the 2017 season. He has led his team to a 101-game unbeaten streak and coached 13 different women to a total of 20 National Player of the Year awards.
The ISAA Player of the Year was an annual U.S. college soccer award presented by the Intercollegiate Soccer Association of America (ISAA) between 1984 and 1995. In 1984, the ISAA began recognizing outstanding men's NCAA soccer players with an annual Player of the Year award. In 1985 the ISAA expanded its recognition program to include women's collegiate players. The ISAA continued to award this honor through the 1995 season, the last year that any player was named. The NCAA recognizes these players in its record books.
