Jesse M. Bethel High School is a high school located in Vallejo, California. It is part of the Vallejo City Unified School District. The school opened in the Fall of 1998, with only two student body classes. It is located on 1800 Ascot Pkwy and serves the east side of Vallejo (to the right of Interstate 80).

History

On May 14, 2015, Max Rusk, a student at the school, 17, was shot dead outside the school during late morning hours while on a trail. He was shot during a robbery which resulted in two non-student suspects arrested. The two were sentenced in 2021 to manslaughter. [3] [4]

On March 5, 2001, a school shooting occurred at Santana High School in Santee, California, United States. The gunman, 15-year-old Charles Andrew Williams, opened fire with an eight-shot .22-caliber revolver, killing two students and wounding 13 others. Williams was then apprehended by responding police officers and convicted. He is currently serving 50 years to life in prison.

Mervin Ray Hughes, known as The Serial Shooter, is an American serial killer who committed at least eight drive-by shootings during a two-week spree in Oakland, California, in 1999, killing two people. He had previously been convicted of manslaughter in a 1986 shooting death and was suspected of killing a man in another city in 1992. Hughes was found guilty of his known crimes and was sentenced to death in 2005.
