Christina Malaya (born 1951 or 1952) is a Malawian musician and comedian. [1] [2] She is better known by the name Jetu, in reference to boxing legend King Kong King Marshal Jetu. Her brother gave her the nickname as a child, because she often fought her classmates. [2] Jetu sued COSOMA for not supporting her music. [3]

Career

Jetu became interested in drama and comedy at a young age. After her husband died in 2019, her interest in doing comedy was reinvigorated. [2] She has also since become a musician. Jetu posts videos to TikTok and YouTube. [4]

Personal life

Following her husband's death in 2019, Jetu moved to from Mchinji to Blantyre to live with her grandchildren. [2]

Joseph Tembo was a musician and politician from Malawi. He had collaborated with Sally Nyundo, Lucius Banda, Mlaka Maliro and many other Malawian artists. He produced and promoted many upcoming artists including Andrew Matrauza, whose first successful single was Musadabwe. Tembo's style of music resembles Zimbabwean mbira music as he is a Sena, a southern Malawian tribe that has a common ancestry. For more than once he had performed and played alongside the late Oliver Mtukudzi.

Juma James Chitsonga, better known by his stage name Jay Jay Cee, is a Malawian afro pop artist. He grew up listening to songs by Annie Matumbi, Danny from Zambia and Movado. He started implementing music at the age of 12 in 2009. He has worked with various artists such as Nesnes, Blaze, Sir Patricks and Hilco.

Copyright Association of Malawi (COSOMA) is a Malawian parastatal organization established in 1992 after the enactment of the Copyright Act of 1989. Its main objective is promotion and protection of interest of composers, authors, performers, producers and broadcasters. COSOMA collects and distributes royalties to the rights holders for their rights. The organization has two branches or offices: a Copyright office which is responsible for the implementation of the Copyright Act and a Collective Management Organization (CMO) that ensures collective management of musical, literary and artistic works.

Grace Chinga Moffat or simply Grace Chinga, was a Malawian gospel singer, songwriter and vocalist. She released her debut studio album titled Uleke (Stop) in 2004 that had a hit song titled Thandizo Langa which made her gain national recognition. In 2009, Chinga released her third studio album titled Udzayimba Nyimbo before releasing the fourth studio album titled Esther in 2016.

Angel Mbekeani, best known as Sangie, is a Malawian reggae artist and songwriter. In 2015, she won as the best female artist of the year in UMP Awards. In 2016 and 2019, she was nominated in the same awards in Best Female Artist of the Year. In 2017, she won in the same awards in Best Female Act.

Zeze Kingston is a Malawian Afropiano singer, songwriter and television personality. In 2023, he won Male Artist of the Year at the Maso Awards that took place at BICC in Lilongwe. He also won Best Live Act.
