Ji Lee

Ji Lee is Executive Vice President of the Global Marketing Center at Samsung Electronics in Korea and former Creative Director at Facebook, Google, and the advertising agency Droga5. Lee's wide range of works covers the fields of advertising, graphic design, marketing, product design, street art, animation, installation, and video. Lee is known for his personal projects such as the Bubble Project, Word as Image, and Drawings for My Grandchildren, and has been giving public speeches on the “Power of Personal Projects.”

Lee was named one of America's 50 most influential designers by Fast Company in 2011. Lee’s work has appeared in the New York Times, BBC, ABC News, The Guardian, and Wired. Lee's the author of four books.

Early life

Lee was born in Seoul, South Korea, in 1971. He moved to Brazil when he was 10 and later moved to New York City to study at Parsons School of Design. He ended up graduating with a degree in communication and graphic design. [1]

Bubble Project

Among the works of public art he is known for is the Bubble Project: Mr. Lee printed 50,000 [2] stickers that look like speech bubbles used in comic strips. He then posted these blank speech bubbles on top of advertisements throughout New York City, allowing anyone who sees them to write in their comments and thoughts. In 2006, Mr. Lee wrote a book about the project called "Talk Back: The Bubble Project," which talks about the blank bubbles which transformed the corporate monologue into a true public dialogue.

Mysterabbit

Lee was also the founders of the project Mysterabbit [3] where a small white coloured rabbit was placed anonymously in over 19 different countries around the world. [4] The rabbit is 3D Printable [5] and there are photos available on their Mysterabbit website. [6]

Redundant Clock

In 2015, Lee started a crowdfunding project on Kickstarter, called “Redundant Clock”, which was successfully funded. [7] In 2019, Lee collaborated with Hong Kong independent watchmaker Anicorn Watches [8] to make “Redundant Watch”, which was also a crowdfunding project on Kickstarter. [9]

Shadowbinders is a young adult fantasy webcomic that features a number of steampunk themed elements. The comic is written and drawn by husband and wife Kambrea "Geeky Sparkles" Pratt (writer) and Thomas "Kneon" Pratt (artist), who has worked on Disney comics for Gemstone Publishing. According to a television interview on WTAJ-TV, the current storyline came about when the Pratts mixed two different story ideas together. Since its publication, Shadowbinders has been covered and reviewed by comics media outlets such as Comic Book Resources and Sequential Tart.

Martian Watches was a brand of smart watch founded in 2007 in the United States by SilverPlus, Inc., an American company headquartered in Irvine, California. Martian Watches allow for hands-free use of mobile phones via short distance wireless communication. Using Bluetooth and voice recognition technology, users can take calls, listen to or send text messages, see caller ID information, and send text using speech synthesis. The Martian watch is reportedly the first watch to utilize voice commands.

Fig was a crowdfunding platform for video games. It launched in August 2015. Unlike traditional crowdfunding approaches like Kickstarter, where individuals can back a project to receive rewards, Fig used a mixed model that includes individual backing and the opportunity for uncredited investors to invest as to obtain a share of future revenues for successful projects. At the end of 2017, four projects had begun generating returns, returning 245% to Fig investors.
