Jim Larkin (born February 7, 1939) is a former American football player and coach. Larkin was the head football coach at Saginaw Valley State University in University Center, Michigan for three seasons, from 1980 until 1982. His coaching record at Saginaw Valley State was 9–22. [1]

Paul Spicer is an American football coach and former defensive end who is the defensive line coach for the New Orleans Breakers of the United States Football League (USFL). He played college football at Saginaw Valley State. He then played 12 seasons in the National Football League (NFL) from 1998 to 2009, the majority of his career with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He was signed by the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent in 1998.
The Grand Valley State Lakers football team represents Grand Valley State University (GVSU) in NCAA Division II football. The team currently competes in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and was once affiliated with the now defunct Midwest Intercollegiate Football Conference. The Lakers football team has appeared in six NCAA Division II national title games, winning four championships, since 2001. The team has made the playoffs in 20 seasons. They have also won or shared 17 conference titles.

He served as the head coach at Hillsdale College (1954–1973), Saginaw Valley State University (1975–1979), and Michigan State University (1980–1982), compiling a career college football record of 173–96–7. Waters was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as a coach in 2000.

George Ihler is a former American football player and coach. Ihler was the head football coach at Saginaw Valley State University in University Center, Michigan for 11 seasons, from 1983 until 1993. He won eight Saginaw Valley League titles and a Class A state championship in 1973 when his Lumberjacks were undefeated and unscored upon (443-0). His coaching record at Saginaw Valley State was 61–52–1. He is a native of Marinette, Wisconsin and attended Marinette High School.
Randy Awrey is an American football coach, former player, and former track and field coach. He is currently the head football coach at Perquimans County High School in Hertford, North Carolina, a position he had held since 2018. Awrey served as the head football coach at Kentucky Wesleyan College (1990–1994), Lakeland College in Sheboygan, Wisconsin (1994–1998), and Saginaw Valley State University (1999–2007), and Concordia University Chicago (2013–2017), compiling a career college football coaching record of 134–106–1. He was also the head track and field coach at St. Lawrence University from 1986 to 1989. He has been inducted in the athletics hall of fame at Northern Michigan University, St. Lawrence, Lakeland, and Saginaw Valley State.
Susan Marie Guevara is the former head women's basketball coach at Central Michigan University. She previously served as the head women's basketball coach at the University of Michigan from 1996 to 2003. Sue announced her retirement from CMU on July 12, 2019.

Vonnie DeLong, formerly Vonnie Thompson and Vonnie Killmer, is an American women's basketball coach and former player. She played college basketball at both Notre Dame and the University of Michigan. She holds the Michigan Wolverines women's basketball single-season record with 156 assists during the 1987-88 season.
Tracy Lee Claeys is a former American football coach. Claeys served as the head football coach at University of Minnesota from midway into the 2015 season through the end of the 2016 season. He was an assistant coach under Jerry Kill for 21 years at Saginaw Valley State University, Emporia State University, Southern Illinois University Carbondale, Northern Illinois University, and Minnesota—the last 16 as his defensive coordinator. Claeys was the defensive coordinator at Washington State University from 2018 to 2019 and the linebackers coach at Virginia Tech in 2020. He announced his retirement in January 2021.
The Battle of the Valleys is an NCAA Division II football rivalry between the Grand Valley State University Lakers and the Saginaw Valley State University Cardinals which began in 1975. Both teams play in the GLIAC. Since 2003, the week leading up to the game has featured a fundraising competition between the two student bodies with proceeds being donated to local charities. Grand Valley and Saginaw Valley have met four times in the NCAA Division II football playoffs. While not considered part of the rivalry series, both teams count these games in the all-time head-to-head records and are included below.
The 2010 CSU Pueblo ThunderWolves football team represented Colorado State University–Pueblo as a member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) during 2010 NCAA Division II football season. Led by third-year head coach John Wristen, the ThunderWolves compiled an overall record of 9–2 with a mark of 7–2 in conference play, tying for third place in the RMAC. CSU Pueblo played their home games at Neta and Eddie DeRose ThunderBowl in Pueblo, Colorado.
