Jim Moran (born April 17, 1972) is an American freestyle skier. He competed in the men's moguls event at the 1998 Winter Olympics. [1] In 1999, he crashed while competing in a race, which lead to the end of his career. [2]

Biography

Moran was born in Pompton Plains, New Jersey in 1972. [1] He was part of the American freestyle ski team for most of the 1990s. [1] At the FIS Freestyle Ski World Cup, Moran was a two-time mogul champion, [1] [3] winning the event at the 1992–93 FIS Freestyle Ski World Cup [4] and the 1995–96 FIS Freestyle Ski World Cup. [5]

Originally he was not selected to compete at the 1998 Winter Olympics. [1] [6] However, following a successful petition to the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee and arbitration hearing, he was granted a spot on the US team. [1] Despite the US team being able to select up to fourteen skiers for the Olympics, only eleven where initially selected. [7] [8] At the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Moran competed in the men's moguls event, finishing in 23rd place. [9]

In February 1999, Moran fell off a cliff during a skiing race, [10] suffering a head injury. [11] Despite being in a coma for almost a month, [12] and suffering with partial paralysis, he made a fully recovery. [1] However, the injury forced him to retire from the sport. [1]

In 2008, Moran gained a degree with the University of Utah, and later moved to Salt Lake City. [1]

Mikaël Kingsbury Canadian freestyle skier

Mikaël Kingsbury is a Canadian freestyle skier and is the most accomplished mogul skier of all time. He achieved eminence early in his career after earning the 2009–10 FIS World Cup Rookie of the Year award. He is a nine-time FIS Freestyle World Cup title-holder for both moguls and overall freestyle, owning the records for most men's Moguls World Cup titles and Overall Freestyle World Cup titles. He also owns the records for career World Cup moguls victories with 71, and consecutive Freestyle World Cup event wins with 13. He is the first man to have won both the moguls and dual moguls World Championship events, and has won the most medals at the Freestyle World Championships of any male competitor in history, having won a medal in 11 of the 12 events he has competed in. Kingsbury won the Olympic silver medal in 2014, and, at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics, he won the gold medal as Olympic champion of men's moguls.

Justine Dufour-Lapointe Canadian freestyle skier

Justine Dufour-Lapointe is a Canadian freestyle skier. She was the Olympic champion in the moguls event at the 2014 Winter Olympics and won a silver medal in moguls at the 2018 Winter Olympics. The gold and silver she and her sister Chloe Dufour-Lapointe won in 2014 was the first time that Canadian sisters stood together on the podium, and the fourth time ever by all nations. In winning the Olympics, she became the youngest freestyle skiing Olympic champion ever at nineteen years of age. Dufour-Lapointe was the FIS World Cup rookie of the year for the 2010–11 season. Dufour-Lapointe was the world champion in moguls at the 2015 World Championships has also won a silver and two other bronze medals in the moguls event at the Freestyle World Ski Championships.

Cassie Sharpe Canadian freestyle skier

Cassie Sharpe is a Canadian freestyle skier. Sharpe is the reigning Olympic champion in women's halfpipe after winning gold in Pyeongchang, South Korea at the 2018 Winter Olympics. She won a silver medal at the 2015 World Championships in halfpipe in Kreischberg and has won gold and bronze in superpipe at the Winter X Games in 2016 and 2018 respectively.

Ikuma Horishima is a Japanese freestyle skier who competes internationally. He competed for Japan at the FIS Freestyle Ski and Snowboarding World Championships 2017 in Sierra Nevada, Spain, where he won a gold medal in Moguls, and another gold medal in Dual moguls.

Nico Porteous New Zealand freestyle skier

Nico Porteous is a New Zealand freestyle skier and an Olympic champion. He is New Zealand's youngest Olympic Games medallist, having won a bronze medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics at the age of 16. He became New Zealand's second Winter Olympic gold medallist, and first male, with his win in men's halfpipe at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.

Naoya Tabara is a Japanese male artistic gymnast and freestyle skier. He has formerly competed as a gymnast and has participated at the gymnastic competitions until 2005 before switching on to take the sport of freestyle skiing in 2006. Naoya Tabara sustained a shoulder injury in 2005 when he was professional artistic gymnast which caused him to choose aerials freestyle skiing. He participated at the 2018 Winter Olympics and competed in the freestyle skiing men's aerials event.

Rachael Karker is a Canadian freestyle skier.

Trace Worthington is an American former freestyle skier. He competed in two events at the 1994 Winter Olympics. After retiring from the sport, Worthington became a sports commentator, working for both NBC Sports and CBS Sports.

Cole McDonald is an American freestyle skier. He joined the US Ski & Snowboard's U.S. Freestyle Ski Team in July 2021. In the same season as his first World Cup, he earned a spot on the U.S. Men's Moguls Team at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, making him the youngest American male mogul skier to participate in the Olympics at 18 years of age.
