Jim Schellinger is the Secretary of Commerce for the state of Indiana. [1]
Schellinger was raised the sixth of eight children in South Bend, Indiana. He attended St. Joseph's High School, where he played for the school's football and baseball teams. He attended the University of Notre Dame, earning a degree in architecture.
On March 19, 2007, he filed his candidacy to run for governor against incumbent Republican Mitch Daniels but lost to fellow Democratic challenger Jill Long Thompson by 13,000 votes - less than 1 percent. When Schellinger joined the race for governor he was the second of three Democratic candidates in the primary race, along with Richard Young and Jill Long Thompson. He is described as a "moderate Democrat." Schellinger had received early endorsements from Congresswoman Julia Carson, Indianapolis Mayor Bart Peterson, and by the UAW. Schellinger raised $1.2 million during the second financial quarter, but was not able to beat Long Thompson despite her being outspent by a significant margin.

Roger Douglas Branigin was the 42nd governor of Indiana, serving from January 11, 1965, to January 13, 1969. A World War II veteran and well-known public speaker, Branigin took office with a Democratic general assembly, the first time since the Great Depression that Democrats controlled both the executive and legislative branches of the Indiana state government. Branigin was a conservative Democrat who oversaw repeal of the state's personal property taxes on household goods, increased access to higher education, and began construction of Indiana's deep-water port at Burns Harbor on Lake Michigan. During his one term as governor, Branigin exercised his veto power one hundred times, a record number for a single term. Branigin was the last Democrat to serve as governor of Indiana until Evan Bayh took office in 1989.
Neil F. Hartigan is an American lawyer and politician from Illinois. He served as the Attorney General of Illinois, the 40th Lieutenant Governor, and a justice of the Illinois Appellate Court. Hartigan was also the Democratic nominee for governor in 1990, but lost the race to Republican Jim Edgar.
Jill Lynette Long Thompson is an American politician and educator. A former Congresswoman from Indiana, she teaches ethics as a Visiting Associate Clinical Professor at the Kelley School of Business and the School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University Bloomington. Until 2015 she was board chair and CEO of the Farm Credit Administration, a position to which she was appointed by President Barack Obama in 2009. Long Thompson completed her tenure there in March 2015. The first person in her family to graduate from college, she earned a B.S. Degree in business administration at Valparaiso University and an M.B.A. and Ph.D. in business at Indiana University. She is a member of the Democratic Party.
The Indiana gubernatorial election of 2008 was held on November 4, 2008. Incumbent Republican nominee Mitch Daniels was challenged by Democratic nominee Jill Long Thompson and Libertarian nominee Andy Horning. Daniels easily won reelection, defeating Long Thompson by over 17 points. Interestingly, despite Daniels' landslide victory, Barack Obama narrowly defeated John McCain in Indiana in the presidential election. This was the first and only time since 1964 that Indiana voted Democratic in a presidential election.

Karen Rae Tallian is an American politician and attorney serving as a member of the Indiana Senate, representing the 4th District, Portage, since her election in December 2005. She was re-elected in 2006, 2010 and 2014. While serving in the Senate, Tallian, a progressive, has supported medicinal prescription and the decriminalization of marijuana, and has authored bills in its favor. In 2015, she announced her candidacy for governor of Indiana but dropped out that same year, well before the primary season. On August 21, 2019, Tallian announced that she would be seeking the Democratic Party nomination for Indiana Attorney General in 2020.
