Joan King (born 1940 or 1941) is a former Canadian school trustee and city councillor. After holding a five-year position on the North York Board of Education from 1980 to 1985,King was a city councillor for North York from 1985 to 1997. Following the amalgamation of Toronto in 1997,she was a Toronto City Councillor from 1997 to 2000. King was awarded the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal in 2013.
King was born in the early 1940s. [1] During her career,King started with the North York Board of Education in 1980. King left her education career in 1985 and was elected as the North York city councilor for Ward 13 at the 1985 Toronto municipal election. [2] As city councilor,King was a major contributor to the planned landfill at Adams Mine in 1991,which was later abandoned. [3] King kept her position in Metropolitan Toronto until 1997 when she was elected to the Toronto City Council. [4] Before the 2000 Toronto municipal election,King announced that she would not be running for city council again. [5]
In 2010,King was named a member of a proposed municipal reformation for Toronto mayoral candidate George Smitherman. [6] Outside of her role as city councillor,King was elected as Vice President of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario in 1996 and a member of the AMO's board of directors from 1997 until 2001. King was also a member of the Waste Diversion Organization and the Greater Toronto Services Board. [4]
In 2001,King was named onto an honour roll by the AMO. [4] In 2013,she was honoured with the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal. [7]
Barbara Hall is a Canadian lawyer,public servant and former politician. She was the 61st mayor of Toronto,the last to run before amalgamation. She was elected mayor of the pre-amalgamation City of Toronto in 1994,and held office until December 31,1997. On November 28,2005,Hall was appointed chief commissioner of the Ontario Human Rights Commission. After having her term extended four times,she retired February 27,2015,after almost a decade in the position.
George Smitherman is a Canadian politician and broadcaster. He represented the provincial riding of Toronto Centre in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1999 to 2010,when he resigned to contest the mayoralty of Toronto in the 2010 municipal election. Smitherman is the first openly gay Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) elected in Ontario,and the province's first openly gay cabinet minister. In January 2011,he joined talk radio station CFRB as a contributor and fill-in host on the Live Drive with John Tory show.
Glen R. Murray is a Canadian politician and urban issues advocate who,in 2020,sought the leadership of the Green Party of Canada. He served as the 41st Mayor of Winnipeg,Manitoba from 1998 to 2004,and was the first openly gay mayor of a large North American city. He subsequently moved to Toronto,Ontario,and was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario as a Liberal Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) for Toronto Centre in 2010,serving until 2017.

The Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) created the Award for Gender Equality in International Development and named it the Pam McConnell Award.

He received 47% of the vote.
