Joanne Camilleri (born 1982) is a Maltese pianist and harpsichordist. [1] [2]
Camilleri completed her early music education in Malta through the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.
She was recommended for an international scholarship based on her Grade 8 ABRSM exam performance, but was too young to pursue it. She completed two performance diplomas from Trinity College of Music at the age of 18 and was accepted by the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester on a full international scholarship. She was placed first in the Bice Mizzi Vassallo Music Competition, which enabled her to attend the Lake District Summer Music Academy, [3] where she worked with international pianists and chamber ensembles.
During her undergraduate studies, she obtained a Licentiate of the Royal Schools of Music (LRSM) in Performance with a grade of Distinction.[ citation needed ] In 2004, she obtained a First Class honors Bachelor of Music degree, followed by a master's degree in performance with a Distinction grade and a Postgraduate Performance Diploma with Distinction.[ citation needed ] In 2007, she returned to Malta and became the first pianist to be awarded a Doctor of Music in Performance by the University of Malta. While studying at the Royal Northern College of Music, Camilleri performed in venues around Manchester, St. Martin-in-the-Fields in London, the Isle of Man and Tunisia.
Following her third graduation at the Royal Northern College of Music, [4] she performed as a recitalist, concerto soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral pianist in Malta and Gozo, and around Europe, the Americas and Asia. She has performed in Sweden, Switzerland, Wales, Ireland, the United Kingdom, Russia, the US and China.
Camilleri has performed at functions in the Palais des Nations in Geneva, Presidential Palace in Malta, the German Ambassador's Residency and the United States Ambassador's Residency, and in concerts organized under the auspices of the Ambassadors for Ireland, United Kingdom, Tunisia and China. At commemorative events she has performed alongside prominent international musicians such as British pianist Ann Rachlin at the Manoel Theatre in a Mozart Night; Russian pianist Vladimir Ovchinnikov in a millennium year concert of 20th Century Music; and London Symphony Orchestra leader Carmine Lauri in a concert to celebrate Malta's Independence Day in London.
As a concerto soloist and orchestral pianist, she has performed with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, [5] the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra and British Orchestras, collaborating with conductors such as Wayne Marshall, Lancelot Fuhry, Clark Rundell, Eric Hull, Philip Walsh, Karl Jenkins, Sergey Smbatyan, Brian Schembri and Michael Laus.
As a chamber musician, she has worked with partners and ensembles including the Chamber Music International Festival (RNCM), the Malta International Arts Festival, [4] [6] the Three Palaces Festival and the Victoria International Arts Festival. [7] She performed in festivals while touring in Sweden and the United Kingdom as a former member of the Camilleri Trio, [8] with whom she premiered works which included a score for a silent film by Yasujiro Ozu.[ citation needed ]
Camilleri has an interest in 17th and 18th-century repertoire and plays the harpsichord and organ continuo with the Valletta International Baroque Ensemble (VIBE), with whom she regularly performs. [9] [10] In 2017, the Ensemble toured Madrid, Paris and Berlin as ambassadors to mark Malta's EU Presidency.
As part of the Ensemble, she has collaborated with baroque music specialists such as harpsichordists James Johnstone and Nick Parle and baroque violinist Catherine Martin, and has performed at the Valletta International Baroque Festival.[ citation needed ]
Her doctoral thesis focused on Johann Sebastian Bach's Aria with 30 Variations.[ citation needed ]
Camilleri has given solo recitals dedicated to the repertoire of the Baroque era, specifically the works of J. S. Bach. She has released two solo CDs of Bach's works.[ citation needed ]
In 2006, Camilleri was a visiting piano tutor at Uppingham School in Rutland.[ citation needed ] When she was based in Malta, she joined the teaching staff at the Malta School of Music as a full-time member, teaching solo piano performance and chamber music.[ citation needed ]
She gave masterclasses for several years as part of the annual Victoria International Arts Festival in Gozo.[ citation needed ]
The English Chamber Orchestra (ECO) is a British chamber orchestra based in London. The full orchestra regularly plays concerts at Cadogan Hall, and their ensemble performs at Wigmore Hall. With a limited performance size, the orchestra specializes in 18th-century music and was created to perform Baroque Music. The orchestra regularly tours in the UK and internationally, and holds the distinction of having the most extensive discography of any chamber orchestra and being the most well-traveled orchestra in the world; no other orchestra has played concerts (as of 2013, according to its own publicity) in as many countries as the English Chamber Orchestra.

Christiana Lin is a Chinese-Austrian pianist and harpsichordist. Since 1994 she has been a Steinway Artist. From 1978 to 1992, she studied in Vienna, Innsbruck and Munich and was conferred the Diplom Ausgezeichnet in piano performing from the University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna, where she studied piano under Noel Flores, and composition with Erich Urbanner. She was also conferred the Diplom Ausgezeichnet in piano performing and Diplom in music education with additional Schwerpunkt in Cembalo (harpsichord) from the Tiroler Landeskonservatorium Innsbruck where she studied piano under Claude-France Journès, a renowned French-German pianist, and harpsichord under Michael Jaud, an Austrian harpsichordist and organist. For several times at the Mozarteum International Summer Academy in Salzburg, she studied piano with the American pianist, Leon Fleisher. She also has been to the Moscow Conservatory several times, studying with Monov and Natalie Trull.
The Valletta International Baroque Festival is one of the largest music festivals of Malta. It was founded by its present Artistic Director Kenneth Zammit Tabona in 2013. The programmatic focus is on baroque and early music.

Maurice Bourgue was a French oboist, composer, conductor, and academic teacher who made an international career. He was principal oboist with the Orchestre de Paris from its foundation in 1967 until 1979. He founded a wind octet of members of the orchestra in 1972, for performing and recordings. He taught chamber music at the Conservatoire de Paris and the Geneva Conservatoire. Bourgue played in world premieres, such as Les Citations by Henri Dutilleux in 1991.
Ailbhe McDonagh is an Irish concert cellist and composer. She performs worldwide as a soloist, chamber musician and recording artist with many albums to her name. In addition to her playing, McDonagh is a prolific composer having written works for orchestra, chamber music ensembles and pedagocial purposes. Her compositions have been published by Boosey & Hawkes, Hal Leonard, RIAM and ABRSM. McDonagh is a professor of cello at the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin, Ireland.
