Johannes Klumpp (born 17 December 1980) is a German conductor.
Born in Stuttgart, Klumpp went to school at the Eberhard-Ludwigs-Gymnasium, completing with the Abitur. After private conducting lessons from Manfred Schreier and Thomas Ungar, he studied conducting at the Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt, Weimar, with Nicolas Pasquet and Gunter Kahlert . He also studied viola with Frank Strauch.
In 2009, Klumpp became principal conductor of the Musiktheater im Revier in Gelsenkirchen. Since 2013, he has been chief conductor of the Folkwang Kammerorchester Essen. [1] [2] As a guest conductor, he has worked with the Düsseldorfer Symphoniker, the Tiroler Landesorchester Innsbruck, the WDR Rundfunkorchester Köln, the Russian Philharmonic Orchestra, the Dresdner Philharmonie, the Landesjugendorchester Berlin the Nürnberger Symphoniker and the Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie, amongst others.
Klumpp has been conductor of the SommerMusikAkademie Schloss Hundisburg since 2007, and in 2013, he also became the Artistic Director of the Artistic festival in Saxony-Anhalt, together with pianist Rolf-Dieter Arens. [3]
In 2006, Johannes Klumpp received the Weimarian "Franz-Liszt Prize". By participating in the final round of the international conducting competition in Besançon, he was brought into the international spotlight for the first time. In 2008, he won the first prize and the special prize for accompanied conducting at the German university competition (Hochschulwettbewerb) "in memoriam Herbert von Karajan". In 2010, he received the Herrmann-Hildebrandt scholarship, [4] and in 2011, he won the special prize at the German conducting competition.
In the years from 2005 to 2011, Johannes Klumpp was awarded the highest support level of the Dirigentenforum of the German Music Council (Deutscher Musikrat).
In cooperation with the classic label Ars-Produktion, he published CDs and SA-CDs with works from composers such as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Johann Nepomuk Hummel, Carl Maria von Weber and Ignaz Pleyel. [5] "Northern Lights", the newest production published in 2014, includes Scandinavian composers.

The Folkwang Kammerorchester Essen is a chamber orchestra historically formed mostly by students of the Folkwang University in Essen, Germany, and other Musikhochschulen in North Rhine-Westphalia, to prepare them for a future position in an orchestra; however, it currently employs a core of permanent members from all over Germany and the world. Members are auditioned and trialed as in a professional orchestra, and, if successful, are offered a permanent contract up to the age of 35. It was founded in 1958 by the director of the Folkwangschule Heinz Dressel. More than 500 musicians were since employed in opera- and symphony orchestras in Germany and abroad.
The EuropaChorAkademie is a German mixed choir, founded by Joshard Daus in 1997 as a group formed by students of two music universities, the University of Mainz and the University of the Arts Bremen. They have performed internationally and recorded choral works including Mahler's Second Symphony and Schönberg's Moses und Aron.

The Dresdner Kapellsolisten is a German chamber orchestra based in Dresden. The ensemble of soloists was formed in 1994 mostly by members of the Staatskapelle Dresden, directed by double bassist Helmut Branny. They play mostly music of the 18th to 20th centuries, on modern instruments but in historically informed performances. They focus on music by less-known composers from the 18th to 20th centuries, namely composers from Dresden. The chamber orchestra has performed in Germany, Southern Europe, Japan and South Korea, including festivals such as Mozart Festival Würzburg and Rheingau Musik Festival. They have produced numerous recordings.
Helmut Branny is a German conductor, double bassist and professor of chamber music at the Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber Dresden. He is a member of the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden, musical director of the Dresdner Kapellsolisten and the Cappella Musica Dresden. With the Kapellsolisten, he has made many recordings, and toured internationally.
