John Avendano is an American academic administrator who is currently serving as the sixth president of Florida State College at Jacksonville,beginning in 2019. Avendano previously served as the president and CEO of Kankakee Community College in Illinois and held leadership positions within educational and community organizations. [1] [2] [3]
Avendano was born in Aurora,Illinois. He received his associate degree from Waubonsee Community College,his bachelor's degree in exercise physiology and master's degree in adult continuing education from Northern Illinois University,and his doctorate in educational administration and foundations from Illinois State University. Avendano began his career in community college administration at Kankakee Community College in Illinois. He held various administrative roles before being appointed as the President and CEO in 2009.[ citation needed ]
Avendano previously served as the president of the Illinois Council of Public Community College Presidents and as the chair of the South Metropolitan Higher Education Consortium President's Council in Illinois. [6] [7]
Avendano was a board member and chair for the Economic Alliance of Kankakee County,the Grundy-Livingston-Kankakee Workforce Investment Board,Cornerstone Services,and the Riverside Medical Center Board. He also co-chaired United Way of Kankakee County in 2014–15. Additionally,Avendano was the presidents' liaison for the Illinois region of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK). [8] [9]
In 2019,he became president and CEO of Florida State College at Jacksonville. [10]
He is married to Janet Avendano and has three children. [2] [11]
Yulee is a Census County Division (CCD) located within Nassau County,Florida,in the United States. Trinity International University (TIU) is an evangelical Christian university headquartered in Deerfield,Illinois. It comprises Trinity College,Trinity Graduate School,a theological seminary,a law school,and a camp called Timber-lee. The university also maintains campuses in North Lauderdale,Florida &Miami,Florida;the camp is located in East Troy,Wisconsin. TIU is the only university affiliated with Evangelical Free Church of America in the United States and enrolls about 2,700 students. On February 17,2023,TIU announced it was moving the undergraduate program to online modalities only and closed the residential campus at the end of the Spring 2023 semester.
Olivet Nazarene University (ONU) is a private Nazarene university in Bourbonnais,Illinois. Named for its founding location,Olivet,Illinois,ONU was originally established as a grammar school in east-central Illinois in 1907. In the late 1930s,it moved to the campus in Bourbonnais. He was selected by the Broward College Board of Trustees on May 9,2018,. and was formally installed as president on March 29,2019. Haile resigned in September 2023 for unknown reasons.
