Nassau County is a suburban county located on Long Island, immediately to the east of New York City. As of the 2020 United States census, Nassau County's population was 1,395,774 with one police department, making it the sixth-most populous county in the State of New York, and reflecting an increase of 56,242 (+4.2%) from the 1,339,532 residents enumerated at the 2010 census. Its county seat is Mineola, while the county's largest town is Hempstead.
Suffolk County is the easternmost county in the U.S. state of New York. It comprises the eastern two-thirds of Long Island, bordered to its west by Nassau County, to its east by Gardiners Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, to its north by Long Island Sound, and to its south by Great South Bay.

The Independent Greens of Virginia was the state affiliate of the Independence Party of America in the Commonwealth of Virginia. It became a state party around 2003 when a faction of the Arlington local chapter of the Green Party of Virginia (GPVA) split from the main party. As of 2011, it bills itself as a "fiscally conservative, socially responsible green party", with an emphasis on rail transportation and "more candidates". In support of wider ballot participation, it endorses many independent candidates who are not affiliated with the party.

As these U.S. Senate elections were prior to the ratification of the Seventeenth Amendment in 1913, senators were primarily chosen by state legislatures. Senators were elected over a wide range of time throughout 1910 and 1911, and a seat may have been filled months late or remained vacant due to legislative deadlock. However, some states had already begun direct elections during this time. Oregon pioneered direct election and experimented with different measures over several years until it succeeded in 1907. Soon after, Nebraska followed suit and laid the foundation for other states to adopt measures reflecting the people's will. By 1912, as many as 29 states elected senators either as nominees of their party's primary or in conjunction with a general election.
Joseph S. Saladino is an American politician. He is the current Supervisor of the Town of Oyster Bay in Nassau County, New York. Saladino previously served as a member of the New York Assembly. He is a Republican.
New York's 2nd congressional district is a congressional district for the United States House of Representatives along the South Shore of Long Island, New York. It includes southwestern Suffolk County and a small portion of southeastern Nassau County. The district is currently represented by Republican Andrew Garbarino.
New York's 4th congressional district is a congressional district for the United States House of Representatives in central and southern Nassau County, represented by Republican Anthony D'Esposito since 2023.
The Babylon Branch is a rail service operated by the Long Island Rail Road in the U.S. state of New York. The term refers to the trains serving Montauk Branch stations from Valley Stream east to Babylon; in other words, the Babylon Branch is a rail service rather than an actual track. The electrification of the Montauk Branch ends east of the Babylon station, so the Babylon Branch is mostly served by electric trains.
Charles J. Fuschillo Jr. is a former Republican member of the New York State Senate from Long Island. From 1998 to 2013, he represented the 8th State Senate district, which spans several South Shore communities in both Nassau and Suffolk Counties. The district currently includes the communities of Wantagh, Merrick, Bellmore, Massapequa Park, Freeport, Roosevelt, Seaford, Amityville, and Copiague, as well as parts of Massapequa, Farmingdale, Baldwin, Lindenhurst, West Babylon, Wheatley Heights, and Wyandanch. Senator Fuschillo resigned from the New York State Senate on December 31, 2013 to serve as the President and CEO of the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.

At the same time, all 29 members from New York of the U.S. House of Representatives, all 212 members of the New York State legislature, and many other local officials were elected.

The 2018 United States elections were held on Tuesday, November 6, 2018. These midterm elections occurred during Incumbent Republican President Donald Trump's term. Although the Republican Party increased its majority in the Senate, unified Republican control of Congress and the White House was brought to an end when the Democratic Party won control of the House of Representatives in what was widely characterized as a "blue wave" election.
Michael Venditto is a former Republican New York State Senator, previously representing District 8, which comprises the South Shore of Long Island beginning with Baldwin in the West and ending with West Babylon in the East. First elected in 2014, he served as Chairman of the Consumer Protection Committee, and on the Codes, Higher Education, Insurance, Judiciary, Labor, Libraries, and Crime Victims, Crime and Correction committees and on the Heroin Task Force.

Presidential primary elections occurred on April 19, 2016, congressional primary elections occurred on June 28, 2016, and state and local primary elections occurred on September 13, 2016. One U.S. Senate seat and all 27 seats in the U.S. House of Representatives were up for election, as were all 63 seats in the New York State Senate and all 150 seats in the New York State Assembly. The 2016 United States presidential election occurred on the same date as the general election.
Christine Pellegrino is a former member of the New York State Assembly from the 9th District. She is a member of the Democratic Party. Prior to her election, Pellegrino was a teacher for 25 years, spending most of her career teaching in Baldwin Public Schools. She got her start in political activism and involvement as an educator in NYSUT and in grassroots education movements. Pellegrino ran as the 2020 Democratic nominee for the 4th District of the New York Senate.
New York's 11th State Assembly district is one of the 150 districts in the New York State Assembly. It has been represented by Democrat Kimberly Jean-Pierre since 2015.
