John-Paul Campion (born 1976 [1] ) is an English politician and the current Police and Crime Commissioner for the West Mercia region,representing the Conservative Party. He was elected to the post in 2016. Prior to his election as Police and Crime Commissioner,Campion worked for HM Prison Service as a contractors escort,and served as leader of Wyre Forest District Council.
As well as a career in business,Campion worked for HM Prison Service as a contractors escort in high security prisons. He was first elected as a councillor to Wyre Forest District Council in 2004,and in 2007 was appointed as its leader,becoming the youngest person to hold that office,as well as the longest. In 2005 he was elected to Worcestershire County Council, [2] [3] and served as a member of its Cabinet. [4]
He was elected to the post of Police and Crime Commissioner on 5 May 2016,succeeding the previous incumbent,Bill Longmore. [5] [6] [7]
In March 2021,Campion announced that he would stand as the Conservative candidate for West Mercia Police in that year's police and crime commissioner elections,which had been delayed for a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. [8] His campaign included plans to get more police officers on the streets,and giving them a much more visible presence. [9] He was re-elected on 6 May, [10] [11] and announced he would also use his second term to press ahead with plans to transfer responsibility for fire services to the PCC. Ronald William Ball is a former Warwickshire Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC),and the first person to hold the post. At the time of his election he was the only independent PCC not to have a background in policing. After a four-decade long career in aviation as an airline pilot on both commercial and cargo flights he was elected to the newly created office of Police and Crime Commissioner on 15 November 2012. One of his first acts in the post was to endorse an alliance with a neighbouring police force aimed at pooling resources and reducing overall costs. Although his role was a non-operational one,he requested a review of a police investigation into a motoring accident that left several people injured,citing public concerns over the incident. After it emerged that police officers who held a meeting with former Conservative Chief Whip Andrew Mitchell following his involvement in the Plebgate affair had not given a proper account of their conversation,Ball became caught up in the affair after criticising the findings of the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) which recommended the officers be disciplined. Ball did not contest the 2016 election for the post,and was succeeded by Philip Seccombe of the Conservative Party.

Festus Akinbusoye is a British Conservative Party politician who was elected Bedfordshire Police and Crime Commissioner in the 2021 election. He is the first black Briton elected to this role. He was selected in 2023 as his party's candidate for the Mid Bedfordshire by-election following Nadine Dorries' resignation.His loss in mid Bedfordshire was the biggest swing from conservative to Labour since the war. He lost the by-election,coming in second place to the Labour candidate Alistair Strathern. A few months later in 2024,Akinbusoye lost re-election as Police and Crime Commissioner.
