Dyfed is a preserved county in southwestern Wales. It is a mostly rural area with a coastline on the Irish Sea and the Bristol Channel.

Dyfed–Powys Police is the territorial police force in Wales policing Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire and the unitary authority of Powys. The force was formed in 1968, with the merger of the Carmarthenshire and Cardiganshire Constabulary, the Pembrokeshire Constabulary and the Mid Wales Constabulary.

The Kingdom of Dyfed, one of several Welsh petty kingdoms that emerged in 5th-century sub-Roman Britain in southwest Wales, was based on the former territory of the Demetae. The Normans invaded Wales, and by 1138 incorporated Dyfed into a new shire called Pembrokeshire after the Norman castle built in the Cantref of Penfro and under the rule of the Marcher Earl of Pembroke.
Christine Marjorie Gwyther is a Welsh Labour politician. She held the Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire constituency seat in the National Assembly for Wales from 1999 to 2007. She failed to retain her seat in the 2007 Welsh Assembly Elections, losing to Conservative candidate Angela Burns; she lost again in the 2011 election to Angela Burns 2011 elections.

The 2012 police and crime commissioner elections were polls held in most police areas in England and Wales on Thursday 15 November. The direct election of police and crime commissioners (PCCs) was originally scheduled for May 2012 but was postponed in order to secure the passage of the Police Reform and Social Responsibility Act 2011 through the House of Lords. The government considers the elected commissioners to have a stronger mandate than the "unelected and invisible police authorities that they replace". The elections took place alongside by-elections for the House of Commons in Cardiff South and Penarth, Corby and Manchester Central, and a mayoral election in Bristol.

Christopher Salmon is a Conservative politician, who served as Dyfed-Powys Police and Crime Commissioner, the largest police area in England and Wales, from November 2012 until May 2016. He was the first person to hold the post and was elected on 15 November 2012.

The National Counter Terrorism Policing Network (NCTPN) is the national collaboration of police forces in the United Kingdom working to prevent, deter and investigate terrorism in the United Kingdom. The Network is governed by the National Police Collaboration Agreement Relating to Counter Terrorism Activities Made Under Section 22A of the Police Act 1996. The Network is accountable to the United Kingdom Government and the National Police Chiefs' Council Counter Terrorism Coordination Committee which is chaired by the Metropolitan Police Service Assistant Commissioner of Specialist Operations (ACSO) who also acts as the National Lead for Counter Terrorism Policing. The Network is also functionally coordinated by two Senior National Coordinators who are usually Metropolitan Police Service Deputy Assistant Commissioners co-located within the Counter Terrorism Command.
Richard Lewis is a British senior police officer who was born in Carmarthenshire in West Wales and has served as the Chief Constable of Cleveland Police since April 2019. He started his policing career with Dyfed–Powys Police in 2000, where he worked in Uniform and CID. Lewis held every rank from Constable to Deputy Chief Constable whilst at Dyfed Powys Police. Prior to becoming Chief Constable at Cleveland, Lewis was the Deputy Chief Constable of Dyfed Powys Police.

A by-election was held in the UK Parliament constituency of Brecon and Radnorshire on 1 August 2019 after Chris Davies, who had held the seat for the Conservatives since the 2015 general election, was unseated by a recall petition. The by-election was won by Jane Dodds of the Liberal Democrats.
Desmond Cecil Parkinson was a chief superintendent in the Dyfed-Powys Police. He was national secretary of the Police Superintendents' Association of England and Wales. He stood as the Conservative Party candidate for the role of Police and Crime Commissioner for West Mercia Police.
