The Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner is the police and crime commissioner, an elected official tasked with setting out the way crime is tackled by Nottinghamshire Police in the English County of Nottinghamshire.

The incumbent is Caroline Henry, representing the Conservative Party, who was returned in May 2021 with 138,658 votes. Paddy Tipping representing the Labour Party was returned in second place, polling 131,302 votes. [2]

Following the election of Henry, within days changes were instigated to scrap the role of Deputy Commissioner, citing a potential saving of up to £78,000. [3] [4] In late 2021, Henry announced the appointment of Sharon Caddell as "interim CEO". [5] [6]

As of January 2022, recruitment was underway for a Chief Executive Officer with a salary of £86,630. [7]

History

The post was created in November 2012, following an election held on 15 November 2012, and replaced the Nottinghamshire Police Authority. The inaugural incumbent Paddy Tipping was returned in 2012 and again in 2016. [8] [9] [10]

Elections for the third term were scheduled for 6 May 2021, having been postponed from May 2020 due to COVID-19 restrictions, [11] [12] with the Conservative Party fielding a candidate for the first time in Caroline Henry, wife of Conservative MP Darren Henry. [13]

The final candidate was confirmed as David Watt, a solicitor and a Nottinghamshire local Liberal Democrat ward councillor at Broxtowe Borough Council, with the Lib Dems also fielding a candidate for the first time. [14]

2012 England and Wales police and crime commissioner elections

The 2012 police and crime commissioner elections were polls held in most police areas in England and Wales on Thursday 15 November. Julia Rosemary Mulligan was the Conservative North Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner. She is the first person to hold the post and was elected on 15 November 2012. Mulligan stood as the official Conservative Party PCC candidate and previously served as a local district councillor, in Craven, where she lives. She also stood for parliament in the 2010 general election.

Ronald William Ball is a former Warwickshire Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC), and the first person to hold the post. At the time of his election he was the only independent PCC not to have a background in policing. After a four-decade long career in aviation as an airline pilot on both commercial and cargo flights he was elected to the newly created office of Police and Crime Commissioner on 15 November 2012. One of his first acts in the post was to endorse an alliance with a neighbouring police force aimed at pooling resources and reducing overall costs. Although his role was a non-operational one, he requested a review of a police investigation into a motoring accident that left several people injured, citing public concerns over the incident. After it emerged that police officers who held a meeting with former Conservative Chief Whip Andrew Mitchell following his involvement in the Plebgate affair had not given a proper account of their conversation, Ball became caught up in the affair after criticising the findings of the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) which recommended the officers be disciplined. Ball did not contest the 2016 election for the post, and was succeeded by Philip Seccombe of the Conservative Party.

Susan Robertson, is a British independent politician. From November 2012 to May 2021, she served as the Avon and Somerset Police and Crime Commissioner. She is the first person to hold the post and was first elected on 15 November 2012, having stood as an independent candidate.

South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner

The South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner is the police and crime commissioner of the South Yorkshire Police in South Yorkshire. The post was created on 22 November 2012, following an election held on 15 November 2012, and replaced the South Yorkshire Police Authority. The current South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner is Alan Billings of the Labour Party, who was elected in 2014 and again in 2016. The role was created in 2012 and the initial office holder was Shaun Wright, who resigned on 16 September 2014. The police and crime commissioner is required to produce a strategic South Yorkshire Police and Crime Plan, setting out the priorities for the South Yorkshire Police, and their work is scrutinised by the South Yorkshire Police and Crime Panel.

The South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner by-election was a 2014 by-election on 30 October 2014 for the position of Police and Crime Commissioner in the South Yorkshire Police region of the United Kingdom. It was triggered by the resignation of Shaun Wright, the inaugural South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner, who stepped down from the position on 16 September 2014 following the Rotherham child sexual exploitation scandal. John-Paul Campion is an English politician and the current Police and Crime Commissioner for the West Mercia region, representing the Conservative Party. He was elected to the post in 2016. Prior to his election as Police and Crime Commissioner, Campion was worked for HM Prison Service as an intelligence officer, and served as leader of Wyre Forest District Council.

2021 England and Wales police and crime commissioner elections Elections held in May 2021 in England and Wales

Elections of police and crime commissioners in England and Wales were held on 6 May 2021, on the same day as the Senedd election in Wales and the local elections in England. This was the third time police and crime commissioner elections have been held. The elections were originally due to take place in May 2020 but were postponed owing to the COVID-19 pandemic. They were therefore held in May 2021, a year later than originally scheduled. Turnout was an average of 33.2% across the elections, with Wales having much higher turnout.

Darren George Henry is a British Conservative Party politician, who has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Broxtowe since 2019. He was elected in 2019, defeating the incumbent MP, and former leader of Change UK, Anna Soubry.

Stephen Mark Turner is the Cleveland Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC). He was elected on 13 May 2021, for the Conservative Party.
