The Tasmanian Legislative Council is the upper house of the Parliament of Tasmania in Australia. It is one of the two chambers of the Parliament, the other being the House of Assembly. Both houses sit in Parliament House in the state capital, Hobart. Members of the Legislative Council are often referred to as MLCs.

Had the Greens lost one of their four seats, they would have lost their status as a major party and would lose financial resources, offices and support staff.
William Edward Felix Hodgman is an Australian diplomat and former politician who has been the High Commissioner of Australia to Singapore since February 2021. He was the 45th Premier of Tasmania and a member for the Division of Franklin in the Tasmanian House of Assembly from the 2002 state election until his resignation in January 2020. He became premier following the 2014 state election, having been Leader of the Opposition since 2006. He was re-elected to a second term in government following victory in the 2018 state election.
The Electoral district of Sorell was a single-member electoral district of the Tasmanian House of Assembly. Its population centre was the town of Sorell east of Tasmania's capital, Hobart, and included the Tasman Peninsula.

Robert Geoffrey "Bob" Mainwaring was a former Australian politician. He was born in Wynyard, Tasmania. In 1986 he was elected to the Tasmanian House of Assembly representing Lyons for the Liberal Party. In 1986 he was defeated by the Duke of Avram, the head of a tiny micronation who ran a high-profile campaign. He defeated the Duke in 1992 and held his seat until 1998, when the reduction in the size of the House meant he again lost his seat.
Rebecca Peta White is an Australian politician. She has been the Leader of the Opposition in Tasmania and Leader of the Parliamentary Labor Party in Tasmania since July 2021, having previously served in that role from March 2017 until May 2021. She has been a member of the Tasmanian House of Assembly in the electorate of Lyons since the 2010 state election. Before she was leader, White served as Shadow Minister for Health and Human Services, and Opposition Spokesperson for Children.

The next Tasmanian state election is scheduled to be held on or before Saturday 28 June 2025 to elect all 25 members plus an extra 10 new seats to the House of Assembly. The Liberal government, currently led by Premier of Tasmania Jeremy Rockliff, will attempt to win a fourth term against the Labor opposition, led by Rebecca White. Also contesting the election will be the Greens, currently led by Cassy O'Connor.
