John Samuel Cole (born 16 December 1941) is a Scottish retired amateur football wing half who made over 100 appearances in the Scottish League for Queen's Park. [1] [2] He later played in Australia for Pan Hellenic and was capped by Scotland at amateur level. [3] [4] [5] [6]
Cole attended Holyrood Secondary School. [3]
Scotland Amateurs
Matthew Murray was a Scottish football outside forward who played in the Scottish League for Kilmarnock, Queen's Park, Ayr United, Morton and St Mirren. He was capped by Scotland Amateurs and Great Britain. Murray also played in the Football League for Barrow and Carlisle United.
Thomas Hutton Bremner was a Scottish footballer who played in the Scottish League for Queen's Park, Motherwell and Hamilton Academical as an inside forward. He represented Scotland at amateur level and made one appearance for the Scottish League XI. Bremner was described as "a naturally clever footballer, versatile enough to play in any of the forward positions".
James Barbour McAlpine, sometimes known as J. B. McAlpine or Mutt McAlpine, was a Scottish amateur footballer who played as an inside left for Queen's Park in the Scottish Football League. He is Queen's Park's record goalscorer and second-highest appearance-maker, having scored 192 goals in 547 appearances in all competitions. He later served on the club's committee and as president. In September 2013, Queen's Park's new youth and community building at Lesser Hampden was named the "J. B. McAlpine Pavilion".
William McKenzie Hastie was a Scottish amateur footballer who made more than 280 appearances in the Scottish League for Queen's Park as a left half. He represented Scotland at amateur level and made one friendly appearance for Great Britain. After his retirement as a player, Hastie became a coach at Queen's Park.
WilliamOmand, known as Junior Omand, was Scottish amateur footballer who made over 250 appearances in the Scottish League for Queen's Park as an outside left. He later became president of the club. Omand represented Scotland at amateur level and played for touring team Middlesex Wanderers. As a player, he was described as "something of a reversion to the traditional Scottish inside forward, hunched over the ball and driving towards the opposition goal".
