John Eric Calderon Osorio is an urban music artist known as John Eric La Roca. [1]

Eric's music has been included as part of the soundtrack of the movie "Feel the Noise", and of the video games Grand Theft Auto IV and FIFA 07. He is known for the single "Raka Taka Taka", [2] and his collaboration on "Na de Na" by Angel & Khriz, was positioned as #86 in the list of 100 best reggaeton songs, published by Rolling Stone. [3]

Musical career

From an early age, Eric demonstrated his inclination for the reggaeton genre. At the age of 11, it was where he began to compose his own musical themes. His first steps would be taken at local parties and community centers, making himself known to many emerging music producers of the time, and recording in 1995 in some "underground" productions.

In the year 2000, he signed a contract under the Guatauba Productions label, thus becoming part of the Guatauba XXX album, where Eric performed his great hit "Rakataka", boosting his career and thus leading him to collaborate in productions such as MVP of the producer Gocho, Mas Flow by Luny Tunes and Noriega, Contra la corriente by Noriega, Voltaje / AC by Julio Voltio, Los Bandoleros, produced by Don Omar, among others. In 2005, Eric's recording repertoire was joined by his first production as a soloist titled "Peso Completo", under the Jiggiri Records label of Tego Calderon and White Lion, [6] where he had the collaboration of singers such as Ángel & Khriz, Alberto Stylee, Tego Calderón, Voltio, Zion and Lennox, [7] and even surpassed 100,000 copies sold, and debuted at #45 on the Billboard's Top Latin Albums chart and #11 on Billboard's Latin Rhythm Albums. [8] [9] The music producers were Mambo Kings, DJ Nesty, Nely, DJ Barbosa, Urba and Monserrate, Naldo and Luny Tunes.

The single "Tembleque" entered Billboard's Hot Latin Tracks list, [10] and was part of the soundtrack of the film Feel the Noise,[ citation needed ] produced by Jennifer López. [11] In that same year, she incorporated her record label Peso Completo Records, with her own recording studio.

In the following years, Eric participated in various productions such as La calle Vol. 1, [12] Los cocorocos, [13] La Iglesia de la calle by Gerardo, [14] Salsatón by Andy Montañez, El Pentágono by Revol and Don Omar, among others. The following year, he announced his second recording project entitled "Borrón y cuenta nueva", which would be released under his label and promoted with the single "Bumpea", which featured an official video featuring Cirilo and Julio Voltio. [15] The single "Taka tiki taka" was also released. However, the album was not officially released.

In 2009, on the album Showtime in collaboration with Ángel & Khriz and Gocho, they composed the song "Na de na", which was nominated at the Billboard Latin Music Awards and awarded at ASCAP for composition as Tropical Song of the Year. Rolling Stone placed it in position 87, within the 100 best reggaeton songs of all time. [16] It was also included in the video games Grand Theft Auto IV and FIFA 07 as part of the soundtrack. [17]

In 2020, DJ Bryan Flow remixed "Raka Taka Taka" and achieved success on TikTok and other digital platforms. [18] Later, Duars Entertainment, Rauw Alejandro's label, proposed to Eric to make the official version with his rerecorded voices. The position that this new version achieved in Billboard Argentina Hot 100 was #89. [19]

Jiggiri Records is a record label that focuses on Latin music, including reggaeton, tropical music, jazz, reggae, Latin alternative and hip-hop, founded in Loíza, Puerto Rico by Tego Calderón and housed in Calderón's recording facility named El Sitio. Jiggiri was founded in 2001.

White Lion Records is a reggaeton, Latin Music, Latín reggae and urbano record label established by Elías de León with the release of the album No Mercy by Daddy Yankee in 1995. The label would temporarily change its name to 'Boricua Guerrero' from 1996-2001 until reestablishing as White Lion Records with the releases of Maicol y Manuel's "Como En Los Tiempos De Antes" and the compilation "Planet Reggae" in 2002. As an independent label in 2003, it was selling over 100,000 copies of Tego Calderon's most recent album at the time; it soon after signed a distribution deal with Sony BMG.

Jowell & Randy are a Puerto Rican reggaeton duo composed of Joel Muñoz and Randy Ortiz. The duo have been active since the early-2000s and have become one of the most popular acts in reggaeton. They have released three studio albums, five mixtapes and twenty-three singles as of June 2017. They were also members of the short-lived group Casa de Leones alongside J King & Maximan and Guelo Star. They became the first reggaeton acts to perform in the Principality of Monaco and the first reggaeton duo to do so in Australia.

Ñejo & Dálmata, also known as Ñejo y Dálmata, are a reggaeton duo from Ponce, Puerto Rico. Ñejo was born June 20, 1975 & Dálmata was born February 27, 1979. They had worked together in collaborations with other reggaeton artists before they released their duo album Broke & Famous in 2007 which peaked at 8 on the 'Billboard Latin Rhythms Albums Chart" and at 9 on the "Top Heatseekers Chart", as well as a number of their singles also charting on Billboard.

Nesty "La Mente Maestra" is a Puerto Rican reggaeton music producer. He was closely associated with reggaeton duo Wisin & Yandel and reggaeton producer Víctor "El Nasi".

Los Cocorocos was a collaborative album between salsa and reggaeton singers released in 2006 by indie CMG distributed by Universal/MOTOWN. The album fused sounds between salsa and reggaeton.

Eddie Alexander Ávila Ortiz, originally known by his stage name Eddie Dee, is a Puerto Rican hip hop recording artist, lyricist and dancer. He began his career in 1990 and launched his debut studio album three years later. He became one of the more popular Urban artists from Puerto Rico after appearing on DJ Adam's Mad Jam vol. 2 in 1997. It featured the hit single "Señor Official". His following releases El Terrorista de la Lírica (2000) and Biografía (2001), too enjoyed underground success. The 2004 album 12 Discípulos is regarded as "the greatest reggaetón various artist album of all time". The album features songs by some of the most successful reggaetón artist, including the intro of the album, where they all come together as one to show that "unity is needed for the genre reggaetón to survive and evolve". It was a collaboration between eleven other artist including Daddy Yankee, Tego Calderón, Ivy Queen, and Vico C among others, who were among the most requested at the time. The track, known as "Los 12 Discípulos" or "Quítate Tu Pa' Ponerme Yo" reached number eight on the Billboard Tropical Songs chart, and was nominated for a 2005 Billboard Latin Music Award for "Tropical Airplay Track of the Year, New Artist". The album itself reached number one on the Billboard Tropical Albums chart for three nonconsecutive weeks. Though retired since 2015, Eddie Dee is generally regarded within the worldwide Reggaeton and Spanish Hip Hop Communities as one of its most important and influential figures alongside the likes of Daddy Yankee, Vico C, Tego Calderón and Ivy Queen. Tagwut is actually an album by DJ Black, not Eddie Dee but he appears in it performing one of his hits 'Directamente Del Ghetto'.

It was released on January 29, 2004, and independently distributed by Diamond Music. 12 Discípulos features eleven other reggaeton musicians, who were among the most requested in the genre at the time. These include Daddy Yankee, along with Ivy Queen, Tego Calderón, Voltio, Vico C, Zion & Lennox, Nicky Jam, Johnny Prez, Gallego, and Wiso G.
