Henry Daglish was an Australian politician who was the sixth premier of Western Australia and the first from the Labor Party,serving from 10 August 1904 to 25 August 1905. Daglish was born in Ballarat,Victoria,and studied at the University of Melbourne. In 1882,he worked as a mechanical engineer but soon switched to working in the Victorian public service. He first stood for election in 1896 but failed to win the Victorian Legislative Assembly seat of Melbourne South. He then moved to Subiaco,Western Australia,where he found work as a chief clerk in the Western Australian Police Department. In 1900,Daglish was elected to the Subiaco Municipal Council and in April the following year,he was elected to the Western Australian Legislative Assembly as the member for the newly created seat of Subiaco,becoming one of six Labor members in the Western Australian Legislative Assembly. The party elected him as its whip,and he resigned from the Subiaco council on 1 May 1901. On 1 December 1902,Daglish was sworn in as mayor of Subiaco,having been elected the previous month.

The New Country Party was a minor political party in Australia. It emerged from the internal divisions of the One Nation Party in Queensland and Western Australia in 2003 and was registered by the Australian Electoral Commission on 9 January 2004. Two Western Australian state upper house MPs elected on One Nation tickets,Paddy Embry and Frank Hough,joined the party and were its only serving MPs until their defeat in the Western Australian state election in 2005.

Patrick Paul Elliot Embry is a former Australian politician. Born in Oundle in the United Kingdom to Air Chief Marshal Basil Embry and Lady Margaret Elliot,he arrived in Australia in December 1956 and became a farmer. In 2001,he was elected to the Western Australian Legislative Council for South West Region,representing One Nation. On 15 May 2003,he resigned from One Nation to sit as an independent. He co-founded the New Country Party with fellow ex-One Nation independent Frank Hough on 30 November 2004. Embry was defeated in 2005.
Francis Carson Hough is a former Australian politician who remains politically active. Born in Subiaco,Western Australia,he was a self-employed business proprietor before entering politics. In 2001,he was elected to the Western Australian Legislative Council for Agricultural Region as a member of One Nation. After the resignation from the party of Paddy Embry in 2003,he and John Fischer were One Nation's only MPs in Western Australia. On 1 June 2004,he and Fischer both resigned from the party to sit as independents. On 30 November 2004,Hough and Embry co-founded the New Country Party,and contested the 2005 state election as such. Both were defeated. He ran as the Palmer United Party candidate for the Division of Pearce at the 2013 federal election. At the 2017 state election,he ran unsuccessfully as an independent for the Agricultural Region.
The Australian Labor Party (New South Wales Branch),also known as NSW Labor,is the New South Wales branch of the Australian Labor Party. The parliamentary leader is elected from and by the members of the party caucus,comprising all party members in the Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council. The party factions have a strong influence on the election of the leader. The leader's position is dependent on the continuing support of the caucus (and party factions) and the leader may be deposed by failing to win a vote of confidence of parliamentary members. By convention,the premier sits in the Legislative Assembly,and is the leader of the party controlling a majority in that house. The party leader also typically is a member of the Assembly,though this is not a strict party constitutional requirement. Barrie Unsworth,for example,was elected party leader while a member of the Legislative Council. He then transferred to the Assembly by winning a seat at a by-election.
