James Joseph "Whitey" Bulger Jr. was an American organized crime boss who led the Winter Hill Gang,an Irish Mob group in the Winter Hill neighborhood of Somerville,Massachusetts,a city directly northwest of Boston. On December 23,1994,Bulger fled the Boston area and went into hiding after his former FBI handler,John Connolly,tipped him off about a pending RICO indictment against him. Bulger remained at large for sixteen years. After his 2011 arrest,federal prosecutors tried Bulger for nineteen murders based on grand jury testimony from Kevin Weeks and other former criminal associates.

Douglas Preston Woodlock is a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts. Born in Connecticut,Woodlock graduated from Yale College and worked as a journalist before attending Georgetown University Law Center. After graduating,Woodlock was a lawyer in private practice at Goodwin,Procter &Hoar,and had stints at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Massachusetts. Appointed to the federal bench in 1986,Woodlock presided over a number of noteworthy cases and was a key figure in the construction of the John Joseph Moakley United States Courthouse on the Boston waterfront. He assumed senior status in 2015.
The Cockerham bribery case involved the investigation and subsequent trials of United States Army contracting officers and their family members who were accused of accepting bribes in return for steering multimillion-dollar contracts to companies providing services for the US Army in Iraq and Kuwait between 2004 and 2007. The alleged ringleader of the accused officers was US Army Major John L. Cockerham,who was sentenced to 17 and 1/2 years in prison for accepting bribes from Army contractors. The contracts,mainly for bottled water,involved at least three US Army contracting officers,two of their family members,six companies from India,Saudi Arabia,Kuwait,and the United States,and up to $15 million in bribe money.

The bombs detonated,killing three people and injuring 264 others.
Daniel Mark Porush is an American businessman,former stock broker and convicted criminal who helped run a pump and dump stock fraud scheme in the 1990s at the Stratton Oakmont brokerage in collaboration with Jordan Belfort. In 1999,he was convicted of securities fraud and money laundering,for which he served 39 months in prison. After prison,Porush became involved with a Florida-based medical supply company,Med-Care,which was the subject of federal investigations. In the biographical 2013 film The Wolf of Wall Street,which focuses on the story of Belfort and Stratton Oakmont,Jonah Hill portrays Donnie Azoff,a character loosely based on Porush. Porush has called the portrayal inaccurate and threatened to sue the filmmakers to prevent him from being depicted.

In 2014 he pleaded guilty to drug trafficking and served 3 years in prison;he was scheduled to finish his sentence in 2017.
The Bonded Vault heist was the August 1975 robbery of the Bonded Vault Company,a commercial safe-deposit business occupying a vault inside Hudson Fur Storage in Providence,Rhode Island. It served as the unofficial "bank" used by the Patriarca crime family and associates. The stolen valuables were worth about $30 million. According to The Providence Journal,it was among the biggest heists in US history and resulted in the longest and costliest criminal trial in Rhode Island history.
