Dr John Edward Greenwood AM is an English-Australian surgeon. He has been head of the burns service at the Royal Adelaide Hospital since 2001. [1] He was the South Australian Australian of the Year for 2016. [2]

Greenwood was born in Lancashire, England, and studied medicine at the University of Manchester. He moved to Adelaide in 2001 when he was headhunted to run the Adult Burns Unit. [3]

Greenwood was made an Honorary Member of the Order of Australia on 17 October 2003 as part of a special honours list for providing medical assistance to victims of the 2002 Bali bombings. [4] [5] His career has been in treating acute burns patients. He has developed new techniques and skin substitutes to treat severe burns. [2] He was awarded Doctor of Health Sciences in 2013 for a thesis documenting the establishment of the Adult Burn Service in South Australia. [6]

Gillian Claire Hicks,, is an Australian motivational speaker, author, curator, and trustee for several cultural organisations. She is the founder of the London-based not-for-profit M.A.D for Peace. Both her legs were amputated below the knee, and her injuries were so severe that she was initially not expected to live. Fiona Melanie Wood is an Australian plastic surgeon and burns specialist working in Perth, Western Australia. She is the director of the Royal Perth Hospital burns unit and the Western Australia Burns Service, and developed spray-on skin in collaboration with Marie Stoner. In addition, Wood is also a clinical professor with the School of Paediatrics and Child Health at the University of Western Australia and director of the Fiona Wood Foundation.

The South Australian State Emergency Service is the South Australian branch of the State Emergency Service, partner of the Australian Council of State Emergency Services. The service, founded in 1962, is volunteer based, and prepares and responds to emergencies within the state. It receives on average 10,000 calls for assistance per year. The SASES is a separate entity, independent of other branches, and reports to the South Australian Minister for Emergency Services. The service is funded by a levy imposed on every household in the state, and is currently led by chief officer Chris Beattie with assistance from the South Australian Fire and Emergency Services Commission (SAFECOM).

The Special Honours Lists for Australia are announced by the Sovereign and Governor-General at any time. In 2003, a list of people received recognition for their parts in the response to the 2002 Bali Bombings.
