John Heaton (New Mexico politician)

John A. Heaton is an American retired pharmacist and former member of the New Mexico House of Representatives who lives in Carlsbad, New Mexico. He served in the legislature from 1997 to 2010, representing district 55, Eddy County. [1] [2]

A building at the National Cave and Karst Research Institute in Carlsbad was named after him in 2016. [3]

It traces its history to the original mineral springs discovered in 1882 that was key in the development of the city. The retirement community was begun in the original Carlsbad Mineral Springs Hotel & Spa which was later demolished and replicated by the current structure. The history of CBTS was commemorated in 1998 by a historical marker at its Carlsbad site.
