John Heinz Cornelis Klunder (born 22 November 1940) was an Australian politician who represented the South Australian House of Assembly seats of Newland from 1977 to 1979 and 1982 to 1985 and Todd from 1985 to 1993 for the Labor Party. [1]
Todd was abolished before the 1993 election and Klunder contested the new seat of Torrens but was defeated by Liberal candidate Joe Tiernan.
Klunder then retired from politics and did not contest the Torrens by-election when Tiernan died months later.
The by-election was won by ALP candidate Robyn Geraghty.
Enfield is a single-member electoral district for the South Australian House of Assembly. Named after the suburb of the same name, it is a 16.48 km2 (6.36 sq mi) suburban electorate in Adelaide's inner north, taking in the suburbs of Blair Athol, Broadview, Clearview, Enfield, Kilburn, Lightsview, Northgate, and Sefton Park; and parts of Nailsworth, Northfield and Prospect. The seat was vacant pending a by-election in February 2019—Labor MP John Rau resigned from parliament in December 2018, following Labor's defeat at the 2018 South Australian state election in March. Labor's Andrea Michaels was elected as Rau's successor on 9 February after defeating Independent candidate Gary Johanson in the by-election.

Located along the River Torrens, it is named after Sir Robert Richard Torrens, a 19th-century Premier of South Australia noted for being the founder of the "Torrens title" land registration system. Torrens is an 18.8 square kilometres (7.3 sq mi) suburban electorate in Adelaide's north-east. It includes the suburbs of Dernancourt, Gilles Plains, Greenacres, Hampstead Gardens, Hillcrest, Holden Hill, Klemzig, Manningham, Oakden, Vale Park and Windsor Gardens.
Dignity Party previously known as Dignity for Disability or Dignity 4 Disability or D4D is a political party in the Australian state of South Australia. The party had one parliamentary member, Kelly Vincent, elected at the 2010 state election to the eleventh and last seat for an eight-year term in the 22-member Legislative Council in the Parliament of South Australia. She was not re-elected in the 2018 state election. In 2016, the name of the political party was changed to the Dignity Party to better represent equality in all forms including race, gender, age and sexual orientation.
Robyn Kathryn Geraghty was the Labor member for the electoral district of Torrens in South Australia from 1994 to 2014. She was elected at a by-election held in 1994 to replace Joe Tiernan who had died in office.

Alannah Joan Geraldine Cecilia MacTiernan is an Australian politician. A member of the Australian Labor Party, she was elected to the Western Australian Legislative Council in 1993, moving to the Legislative Assembly in 1996, where she served as a senior minister in the Gallop state Labor government. She resigned from state politics in July 2010 in an unsuccessful attempt to win the federal seat of Canning at the 2010 federal election, then moved to local politics as the mayor of the City of Vincent from 2011 to 2013. She was elected to the federal seat of Perth at the 2013 federal election, though did not contest the seat at the 2016 federal election. She returned to Western Australian state politics at the 2017 state election as a Legislative Council member for the North Metropolitan region.

The Torrens state by-election, 1994 was a by-election held on 7 May 1994 for the South Australian House of Assembly seat of Torrens, centred in the inner north-eastern suburbs of Adelaide. This was triggered by the death of Liberal MHA Joe Tiernan on 31 March 1994, only four months after winning the seat at its first contest in the 1993 state election on a two-party vote of 56.22 percent.
