John Robert Magaro (born February 16, 1983) is an American actor. He has acted in the films Not Fade Away (2012), The Big Short (2015), Carol (2015), Overlord (2018), First Cow (2019), Showing Up (2022), The Mistress (2022), and Past Lives (2023). He has also acted in the Netflix series Orange Is the New Black (2015–2019) and The Umbrella Academy (2019) and the Amazon series Crisis in Six Scenes (2016). He made his Broadway debut as Earl Williams, the escaped convict, in the revival of The Front Page in 2016.
Magaro was born February 16, 1983, in Akron, Ohio, the son of Wendy and James Magaro, [1] and grew up in its nearby suburb of Munroe Falls. His father is of Italian descent and his mother is Jewish; his parents were teachers. While attending school within the Stow-Munroe Falls City School District, Magaro began acting in local theater, including shows at the Cleveland Play House and the Kent State Porthouse Theatre at Blossom Music Center, and Weathervane Playhouse in Akron, Ohio. As a youth, Magaro also appeared in television commercials, and had a role in a Rescue 911 episode. [2] [3] [4] [5]
After graduating from Stow-Munroe Falls High School in 2001, Magaro went on to study theater at Point Park University in Pittsburgh. Among his acting highlights are The Big Short and Carol (2015). His early film work included The Brave One , the HBO film Taking Chance and a lead role in the horror film My Soul to Take . [2] [6] [7] Magaro also appeared in eleven episodes of Orange Is the New Black , spanning seasons 3-7. In 2008, Magaro starred in the popular Walmart x Coke holiday commercial, which played in movie theaters across the country. One of Magaro's earliest appearances was as an extra in Steven Spielberg’s 2005 film Munich . [8]
Magaro was the lead in the 2012 film Not Fade Away , which earned him the HFF Spotlight award. [9] [10] In 2019, he portrayed the lead role of "Cookie" in Kelly Reichardt’s critically acclaimed film First Cow , for which he was nominated for a 2020 Gotham Award as Best Actor. [11]
Magaro is married to fashion designer Janice Hong, who gave birth to their first child in 2020. [12] [ failed verification ] Magaro also struggles with an anxiety disorder. [12]

Steven Allan Spielberg is an American filmmaker. Kushner is among the few playwrights in history nominated for an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Award.
Hudson High School (HHS) is a public high school in Hudson, Ohio, United States. It is the only high school in the Hudson City School District and is located on a 72-acre (29 ha) campus that has been developed to include a variety of performing arts facilities, athletic fields, such as six tennis courts, a lighted baseball field, track, and football stadium. As of the 2014–15 school year, the school has an enrollment of 1,631 students, mainly from Hudson and neighboring Boston Township. In the 2014–15 school year, the school had an enrollment of approximately 1,650 students and a staff of more than 160. It is the only high school in the Stow–Munroe Falls City School District and serves students in grades nine through twelve, mostly from the cities of Stow and Munroe Falls, but also neighboring parts of Cuyahoga Falls, Franklin Township, Hudson, and Tallmadge. In recent years, academic recognition has come from the Ohio Department of Education, Newsweek, and U.S. News & World Report.

Tallmadge High School is a public high school in Tallmadge, Ohio, United States. It is the only high school in the Tallmadge City School District. THS was established in 1879 and the current facility opened in 2008. The school colors are blue and gold and the athletic teams are known as the Blue Devils. Tallmadge is one of seven schools that compete athletically in the American Division of the Suburban League.
The Stow–Munroe Falls City School District (SMFCSD) is a public primary and secondary school district with administrative offices in Stow, Ohio. Located in eastern Summit County, the district serves more than 5,100 students and has 6 elementary schools. 2 middle schools. And 1 high school – primarily from the cities of Stow and Munroe Falls – but also from neighboring portions of Cuyahoga Falls, Franklin Township, Hudson and Tallmadge. With a staff of more than 600, SMFCSD operates eleven facilities: its own central office, a bus garage, six elementary schools, one intermediate school, one middle school and one high school. Tom Bratten currently serves as superintendent.

James R. Graner was the weeknight sports anchor for Cleveland NBC affiliate KYW-TV beginning in 1957. He also served as color commentator for the Cleveland Browns Radio Network, most notably alongside Cleveland sportscaster Gib Shanley.
None Too Fragile Theatre is a regional theater based in Akron, OH. Established in 2010 in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, the theatre then moved to Pub Bricco in 2012. On July 5, 2019, the theatre announced that it was moving to the former Coach House Theatre at the Akron Woman's City Club. Announcement of the 2024 season has been delayed due to negotiations with the Akron Woman's City Club regarding extension of their 4½ year lease.
Carrie Alexandra Coon is an American actress. On television, she has starred as grieving mother Nora Durst in the HBO drama series The Leftovers (2014–2017) and Gloria Burgle in the third season of the FX anthology series Fargo (2017). She won a Critics' Choice Television Award for Best Actress for The Leftovers and was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress for Fargo. She also starred in the second season of the anthology drama series The Sinner (2018) and has played an aspiring socialite in the HBO period drama series The Gilded Age since 2022. For her work in The Gilded Age, she received another Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress.
Leona Wright Farris was an American educator. She worked as an assistant professor at the University of Akron from 1969 to 1988 and some sources list her as the first African American woman to hold that position at the university. Her family was one of the first black families to live in Stow, Ohio, and her children were the first black children to attend the school district there. Farris was involved in integrating the dormitories of Ohio State University and continued to be active in groups such as the NAACP and Alpha Kappa Alpha throughout her life. The University of Akron has a scholarship in her name.
