John Maurer (born July 14, 1961) is an American musician who was a longtime bass guitarist for Social Distortion [1] from 1984 to 2004.
He joined Social Distortion in early 1984 following the departure of Brent Liles. He played on every album from Prison Bound to Sex, Love and Rock 'n' Roll . He has a songwriting credit on the song "So Far Away" from Social Distortion's 1990 eponymous album along with frontman Mike Ness.
In his later career he started two bands, Foxy and Fuel, while still playing for Social Distortion. He also started his own record company called Slip Records. He stated in an interview with HM Magazine that, while in Social Distortion, he became a devout Christian.[ citation needed ]
He was replaced by Rancid's Matt Freeman in August 2004.

Work on the album began in 2006 and it was originally forecast for a 2007 release, but was pushed back several times while the band continued touring and writing new material. After four years of writing, Social Distortion recorded the album from February to July 2010 at Ocean Studios in Burbank, California. Drummer Atom Willard left the group during the recording sessions in favor of his other band, Angels & Airwaves. He was temporarily replaced by Scott Reeder before David Hidalgo, Jr. joined as the band's new permanent drummer. Despite being listed as a band member on the album, Hidalgo did not actually play on it; instead, the band hired session musician Josh Freese to record the drum tracks.
Jonny "2 Bags" Wickersham is an American musician who is currently a guitarist for the California punk rock band Social Distortion. He joined Social Distortion after the death of founding member and longtime friend Dennis Danell in February 2000. Previously he had been a guitarist for U.S. Bombs, The Cadillac Tramps, and Youth Brigade.
