The Alabama Public Service Commission,commonly called the PSC,was established by an act of the Alabama Legislature in 1915 to primarily replace the State Railroad Commission. The PSC's responsibility was expanded in 1920 to include regulating and setting rates that utility companies charge their customers for electricity. The legislature expanded the PSC's responsibilities in later years to include those companies that provide gas,water,and communications,as well as transportation common carriers such as trucking and air carriers. The PSC effectively determines the rate of profits that most of these companies are allowed to earn. However,some of its traditional responsibilities have passed to the federal government with the passage of the Federal Aviation Act of 1994 and the Federal Communications Act of 1996.
The Alabama Republican Party is the state affiliate of the Republican Party in Alabama. It is the dominant political party in Alabama. The state party is governed by the Alabama Republican Executive Committee. The committee usually meets twice a year. As of the February 23,2019 meeting in Birmingham,the committee is composed of 463 members. Most of the committee's members are elected in district elections across Alabama. The district members are elected in the Republican Primary once every four years,with the most recent election for the committee having been on June 5,2018. The new committee takes office following the general election in November 2018. In addition,all 67 county GOP chairmen have automatic seats as voting members. The state chairman can appoint 10 members. Each county committee can appoint bonus members based on a formula that theoretically could add 312 seats,although that formula currently calls for only about 50 seats.

Kay Ellen Ivey is an American politician who is the 54th governor of Alabama,serving since 2017. Originally a conservative Southern Democrat,Ivey became a member of the Republican Party in 2002. She was the 38th Alabama state treasurer from 2003 to 2011 and the 30th lieutenant governor of Alabama from 2011 to 2017.
The 1986 Alabama gubernatorial election saw the election of Republican H. Guy Hunt over Democrat Bill Baxley. In state politics,this election is largely seen as a realigning election since Hunt was the first Republican to be elected governor in 114 years –the last Republican to be elected was David P. He was first elected to succeed his twin brother,John McMillan. At the time of his death,he was the longest-serving member of the Alabama House of Representatives.
The Alabama State Treasurer acts as the head banker for the State of Alabama,handling deposits,withdrawals,redemptions of state warrants and investments of state funds. The position was created in 1819 when Alabama became a state. Its constitution established the Office of the Treasurer of State,a position that would be elected by the legislature. Individuals serving as state treasurer were elected annually by the General Assembly from 1819 to 1861. Beginning in 1861,the treasurer was elected biennially from until 1868 and was elected by popular vote for a term of two years in 1868. Arthur Bingham's election in 1868 marked the first time a Republican would hold the office. Kay Ivey in 2002 would become the second Republican to hold the office. The treasurer began to be elected to a four-year term as a result of the 1901 Constitution but could not serve successive terms until a 1968 amendment. In 1950,Sibyl Pool (D) would become the first of seven different women to be elected State Treasurer.

The 2022 Alabama gubernatorial election took place on November 8,2022,to elect the governor of Alabama. Incumbent Governor Kay Ivey took office on April 10,2017 upon the resignation of Robert J. Bentley (R) and won a full term in 2018. She won her bid for a second full term in a landslide.
A general election was held in the U.S. state of Arkansas on November 8,2022. All of Arkansas' executive officers were up for election as well as all four of the state's seats in the United States House of Representatives and a U.S. senator. Primaries were held on May 24,2022,with runoff primaries on June 21. Polls were open from 7:30 AM to 7:30 PM CST.
The 2022 United States state treasurer elections were held on November 8,2022,to elect the state treasurer and equivalents in twenty-seven states,plus a special election in Utah. The previous elections for this group of states took place in 2018. The treasurer of Vermont serves two-year terms and was last elected in 2020.
