John Olszowka (born October 14, 1965) is a professor of history and academic administrator. [1] He currently serves as Dean of the Ridge College of Intelligence Studies and Applied Sciences at Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pennsylvania. [2]
Olszowka was born in North Tonawanda, New York to Robert and Christine (Gorski) Olszowka. He attended OLC-Ascension Grade School and later North Tonawanda High School. Following high school, Olszowka enrolled in SUNY-Buffalo where he earned a bachelor's degree in history in 1988. Afterwards, Olszowka went to the State University of New York College at Buffalo. [3] There he was introduced to labor history, by historian James McDonnell. After earning a master's degree, Olszowka attended Binghamton University where he earned his doctoral degree in history. At Binghamton, Olszowka studied with historians Thomas Dublin, Brendan McConville, and Richard Dalfiume. [4]
Olszowka began his teaching career at the University of Maine at Farmington in 2001. Prior to Farmington, Olszowka also held positions at SUNY-Geneseo and Lycoming College. In addition he held a research fellowship at the Smithsonian Institution. In 2005. he joined the faculty at Mercyhurst University. [5]
In 2015, Olszowka was named Chair of the Thomas B. Hagen Department of History at Mercyhurst. Then in 2019, the university selected him to serve as Associate Provost of Graduate Programming and Strategic Initiatives. In May 2021, Olszowka was tabbed to serve as Interim Dean of the Ridge College of Intelligence Studies and Applied Sciences. In October the university removed the interim tag, with Olszowka serving the roles of Dean of Ridge College and Associate Vice Provost for Graduate Programming. [6] [7]
Olszowka's area of speciality is American social and labor history, with an emphasis on the interwar period, 1919–1945. A major focus of his research has centered on labor relations in the aircraft industry. [8]

The Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority (NFTA) is the public agency responsible for operating most public transportation services in the Buffalo–Niagara Falls metropolitan area. The NFTA, as an authority, oversees a number of subsidiaries, including the NFTA Metro bus and rail system, the Buffalo-Niagara International Airport, the Niagara Falls International Airport and NFTA Small Boat Harbor. The NFTA Metro bus and rail system is a multi-modal agency, utilizing various vehicle modes, using the brand names: NFTA Metro Bus, NFTA Metro Rail, NFTA Metrolink and NFTA PAL. In 2022, the system had a ridership of 14,061,700 or about 54,000 per weekday as of the third quarter of 2023. In addition, the NFTA also owns and manages a number of properties, including the Buffalo Metropolitan Transportation Center in Downtown Buffalo ; the Niagara Falls Transportation Center on Factory Outlet Boulevard; the Portage Road Transit Center in Niagara Falls; and a number of strategically located bus loops and transit centers in the Buffalo Niagara region. Of note, many of the bus loops have been in continuous operation since the days of the International Railway Company, a predecessor to the NFTA. Agency-wide, the NFTA employs 1,500 full-time and part-time employees. There are three business centers that operate as the NFTA organization: Surface Transportation, which handles ground transportation throughout Erie and Niagara counties, Aviation, which handles air related business at the Buffalo-Niagara International Airport and Niagara Falls International Airport and Property Risk/Management, which operates the NFTA-Boat Harbor and handles other properties that are owned and/or operated by the NFTA.

New York State Route 270 (NY 270) is a north–south state highway in western New York in the United States. It runs through rural and wooded areas of the town of Amherst in Erie County and the town of Pendleton in Niagara County. The southern terminus of the route is at an intersection with NY 263 south of the hamlet of Getzville. Its northern terminus is at a junction with NY 31 and NY 93 west of the city of Lockport. The entirety of NY 270 is known as Campbell Boulevard, named after New York State Senator William W. Campbell of the Niagara–Orleans district.
The Ridge College of Intelligence Studies and Applied Sciences at Mercyhurst University (RIAP), located on the campus of Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pennsylvania, offers undergraduate and graduate studies programs in intelligence analysis. The program also offers graduate certificates in Applied Intelligence, Counterintelligence, and Law Enforcement Intelligence. The Intelligence Studies program "promotes the study of Intelligence in higher academic settings, while seeking to identify, promote, and employ best practices in the study and application of intelligence studies throughout its various disciplines (national security, law enforcement, business intelligence and academia)."
The Upstate New York Collegiate Hockey League is a college ice hockey league comprising teams from smaller colleges and universities in and near Upstate New York that is affiliated with the Collegiate Hockey Federation (CHF). The league is based in New York State and has a majority of teams competing in-state along with some from neighboring Pennsylvania and Vermont.
The Mercyhurst Lakers men's ice hockey team is a National Collegiate Athletic Association hockey team that represents Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pennsylvania under Head Coach Rick Gotkin. The team is currently a Division I hockey team playing out of the Mercyhurst Ice Center located on the school campus. The Mercyhurst Lakers started out as a club sport at the school, moving up to Division III, followed by Division II, and now plays Division I in the Atlantic Hockey Association conference. After joining their step up into Division I in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference in 1998, the Lakers have won their conference tournament making NCAA tournament appearances in 2001, 2003, and 2005.
The Global Intelligence Forum is an annual conference dedicated to exploring best practices in intelligence analysis. The conference takes place in Dungarvan, Ireland, the sister city of Erie, Pennsylvania, home of Mercyhurst College, the Mercyhurst College Institute for Intelligence Studies, and the Center for Intelligence Research Analysis and Training (CIRAT).
David J. Dausey is an American epidemiologist, professor and academic administrator. He is the Provost of Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was formerly the Provost of Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pennsylvania. Prior to Mercyhurst, Dausey was a professor at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he maintains an honorary faculty appointment as a Distinguished Service Professor. Dausey was also Policy Researcher at the RAND Corporation.
