John Pennington (born December 5, 1981) is an American college football coach. He is the head football coach for West Virginia State University, a position he has held since 2017. [1] [2] [3] [4] He also coached for West Virginia Wesleyan, West Virginia Tech, Concord, [5] and semi-professional team the West Virginia Lightning of the Heartland Football League (HFL). He played college football for West Virginia as a wide receiver. [6]

Marshall University is a public research university in Huntington, West Virginia. It was founded in 1837 and is named after John Marshall, the fourth Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court.
Bluefield State University is a public historically black university (HBCU) in Bluefield, West Virginia. Despite being an HBCU, Bluefield's undergraduate student body is now over 80% white. The university is part of West Virginia's public university education system.
Robert Edward Huggins, nicknamed "Huggy Bear", is an American college basketball coach. He was the head coach at Walsh, Akron, Cincinnati, Kansas State, and West Virginia. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2022.
Donald Eugene Nehlen is a former American football player and coach. He was head football coach at Bowling Green State University (1968–1976) and at West Virginia University (1980–2000). Nehlen retired from coaching college football in 2001 with a career record of 202–128–8 and as the 17th winningest coach in college football history. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2005 and has served as a president of the American Football Coaches Association.
The West Virginia Mountaineers are the athletic teams that represent West Virginia University in Morgantown, West Virginia. The school is a member of National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I. The Mountaineers have been a member of the Big 12 Conference since 2012. At that time, the Mountaineers joined the Mid-American Conference as an affiliate member for men's soccer. The men's soccer team now competes in the Sun Belt Conference.

The 1935 Marshall Thundering Herd football team was an American football team that represented Marshall College as a member of the Buckeye Athletic Association (BAA) and the West Virginia Athletic Conference (WVAC) during the 1935 college football season. In its first season under head coach Cam Henderson, the Thundering Herd compiled an overall of 4–6 record and outscored opponents by a total of 139 to 117. Marshall had a record of 0–4 in BAA play, placing last out of five teams, and a record of 2–1 against WVAC opponents, but did not play enough conference games to qualify for the WVAC standings. John Zontini was the team captain.
