John Paul Reed (born 27 August 1972) is an English former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. Born in Rotherham, England, he played for Sheffield United, Scarborough, Darlington, Mansfield Town and Blackpool in the Football League. Reed subsequently spent five years playing in the English non-league, along with a brief spell at Greek side Ethnikos Piraeus.

Playing career

Reed came through the youth system at Sheffield United [1] but never managed to establish himself in the first team. He was loaned to Scarborough, Darlington and Mansfield Town to get first team experience, but eventually left Bramall Lane having only made 17 appearances in total, scoring two goals. [1]

Reed signed for Blackpool during the 1997 close season, but the move proved to be an unsuccessful one as he made only three substitute appearances in the league for The Tangerines. A short spell at Bury followed before he drifted into non-league. Reed's career was hampered by knee injuries, [1] and he subsequently moved regularly around non-league sides in England, although he also had a short spell in Greece with Ethnikos Piraeus. [1]

Frederick Walter Laycock was an English professional footballer who played as an inside forward. He was born in Sheffield. He began his career in local football with St Mary's and Shirebrook. After a spell in the Midland League with Rotherham Town, Laycock signed as a professional with Sheffield Wednesday in March 1923. However, he failed to make a first-team appearance for the club and moved on a free transfer to Football League Third Division North side Barrow the following year. At Holker Street, Laycock scored 10 goals in 31 league matches. Said to be an outstanding header of the football, his form for Barrow attracted other clubs to his signature. At the match against Rotherham County on 16 March 1925, the final day for transfers in the 1924–25 season, several clubs sent representatives to sign the player. While the game was in progress, Laycock was called from the field of play to sign for Third Division North rivals Nelson, before completing the rest of the match for Barrow. Both Laycock and Nelson were later fined over the incident, Laycock receiving his punishment for illegally representing Barrow while contracted to a different club.

Terence Melling was an English footballer who scored 40 goals from 129 appearances in the Football League playing as a forward for Watford, Newport County, Mansfield Town, Rochdale and Darlington. He also played non-league football for clubs including Slough Town, Maidstone United, Tooting & Mitcham United, Tow Law Town and Scarborough, and was on Newcastle United's books, but never played for them in the League.
