John Smyth (priest)

John Smyth was an Anglican Archdeacon in Ireland in the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries. [1]

He was born in County Armagh; and educated at Trinity College, Dublin. [2] He was Vicar of Donaghmoyne from 1663 [3] and Archdeacon of Clogher from 1682, holding both positions until his death in 1704. [4]

He is remembered now chiefly for his alleged role in performing a secret marriage between Jonathan Swift and Esther Johnson (Stella).

Charles Maurice Stack was an Anglican bishop in Ireland. Stack was born into an ecclesiastical family, the son of Reverend Edward Stack, and educated at Trinity College, Dublin where he graduated in 1848. He was Vicar of Lack, County Fermanagh from 1851 to 1877 when he became the Archdeacon of Clogher. He was appointed Bishop of Clogher in 1886 and served the diocese for 16 years, until he resigned due to advanced age in November 1902.
