John V. Hendry (born August 23,1948) [1] is a former chief justice of the Nebraska Supreme Court,appointed from the state at large in 1998. He received both a B.S. and J.D. from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln,and was admitted to the bar in 1974. He served as a County Court Judge of the Third District from 1995 to 1998. His service as Chief Justice ended October 2,2006.
Byron Raymond "Whizzer" White was an American lawyer,jurist,and professional football player who served as an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States from 1962 until 1993. By his retirement,he was its only sitting Democrat and the last surviving member of the progressive Warren Court.
Salmon Portland Chase was an American politician and jurist who served as the sixth chief justice of the United States from 1864 to 1873. He had earlier served as the 23rd governor of Ohio,and had also represented Ohio in the United States Senate,and had served as the 25th United States Secretary of the Treasury in the administration of Abraham Lincoln. Carhart,530 U.S. 914 (2000),was a landmark decision of the US Supreme Court dealing with a Nebraska law which made performing "partial-birth abortion" illegal,without regard for the health of the mother. Nebraska physicians who performed the procedure contrary to the law were subject to having their medical licenses revoked. The Court struck down the law,finding the Nebraska statute criminalizing "partial birth abortion[s]" violated the Due Process Clause of the United States Constitution,as interpreted in Planned Parenthood v. Casey and Roe v. Wade.

He served as chief judge from September 30,2000,to September 30,2006,when he assumed senior status. James Clark McReynolds was an American lawyer and judge from Tennessee who served as United States Attorney General under President Woodrow Wilson and as an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. He served on the Court from 1914 to his retirement in 1941. McReynolds is best known today for his sustained opposition to the domestic programs of President Franklin D. Roosevelt and his personality,which was widely viewed negatively and included documented elements of overt antisemitism and racism. Born in Elkton,Kentucky,McReynolds practiced law in Tennessee after graduating from the University of Virginia School of Law. He served as the U.S. Assistant Attorney General during President Theodore Roosevelt's administration and became well known for his skill in antitrust cases. After Wilson took office in 1913,he appointed McReynolds as his administration's first attorney general. Wilson nominated McReynolds to the Supreme Court in 1914 to fill the vacancy caused by Associate Justice Horace Harmon Lurton's death.
