John Hendrix Baker, III (born March 15, 1941) is a former American football linebacker and tight end. He played college football at Mississippi State University, where he was a linebacker and an offensive end. He played professionally in the American Football League (AFL) for the Houston Oilers from 1963 through 1966 and for the San Diego Chargers in 1967.

Personal life

Baker married Carla Swanson, a member of the Swanson TV dinners family, on June 22, 1968, at Kountze Memorial Lutheran Church in Omaha, Nebraska. [2] He has a daughter named Cara and three sons : Jason, Jacob, and Joshua. Joshua pitched in the College World Series for the Rice Owls. Baker is the father-in-law of Major League Baseball player Lance Berkman.

Frank Crawford

Frank Crawford was an American college football coach, lawyer, and law professor. He attended Yale University and served as the first head football coach at the University of Michigan in 1891. He also coached at the University of Wisconsin (1892), Baker University (1892), the University of Nebraska (1893–1894), and the University of Texas (1895). He later had a long career as a lawyer in Nebraska and France. He was a professor of law at Creighton College of Law from 1906 to 1913.

The one-platoon system, also known as iron man football, is a platoon system in American football where players play on both offense and defense. It was the result of smaller roster sizes in the early days of the game and rules that limited player substitutions, rules that are also standard procedure in many other sports but were eliminated in the 1940s as free substitution was legalized. The alternative system is the two-platoon system, which uses separate offensive and defensive units.
