Joker Arroyo is a leading equestrian athlete representing the Philippines. [1]

Born on May 4, 1988, in Los Angeles, CA, USA, Arroyo is the youngest daughter of late Senator Joker Arroyo [2] and lawyer Felicitas S. Aquino. She graduated from the British School Manila in 2006, then from Yale University in 2010 where she attained a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. While at Yale, Arroyo was also Captain of the Yale Equestrian Team. [3]

Arroyo has been a Philippine equestrian team stalwart for many years. Her first championship appearance was at the 2005 Southeast Asian Games, winning the Team Gold Medal with Without a Doubt. Arroyo also was a member of the Philippine Team at the 2011 Southeast Asian Games, this time riding Didi de Goedereede, where the Philippine team won the Team Silver Medal. [4] She was also a competitor at the 2014 Asian Games, again with her horse Didi de Goedereede (Top 25 individually). Arroyo also participated in the 2018 Asian Games with Ubama Alia (Top 20 individually). She most recently won the Team Silver Medal at the 2019 FEI Asian Equestrian Championship, again with Ubama Alia.

She is also the Philippine national record holder in the Puissance Event, having cleared 1.74m with her horse Without a Doubt in 2005. [5]

Arroyo owns and operates JFJC Equestrian Training Services. [6] Arroyo divides her time between the Philippines and France, coaching/training a number of riders and their horses both at home and abroad.

She is also founding member of Equestrian Philippines, Inc. (EqPH), where she sits as Sports Director in the Board of Directors. EqPH is the country's premier equestrian sport development organization, responsible for organizing various competitions, training programs with internationally-renowned athletes and coaches, and bringing elite-level equine management services into the country. Karen Lende O'Connor is an American equestrian who competes in three-day eventing. Although she did not come from a family of equestrians, her interest in horses started at an early age, and she received her first horse for her 11th birthday. O'Connor began competing internationally in the late 1970s, and in 1986 began riding for the US national eventing team. Since then, she had ridden in five Olympic Games, three World Equestrian Games and two Pan-American Games, winning multiple medals, including a team silver at the 1996 Olympic Games and a team bronze at the 2000 Olympic Games. She has also posted numerous wins and top-10 finishes at other international events. As of 2013, O'Connor is not competing, having suffered fractures to two thoracic vertebrae during a fall at a competition in October 2012.

Imperial Manila is a pejorative epithet used by sectors of Filipino society and non-Manileños to express the idea that all the affairs of the Philippines, whether in politics, economy and business or culture, are decided by what goes on in the capital region, Metro Manila, without considering the needs of the rest of the country, largely because of centralized government and urbanite snobbery. Ceferino "Joker" Paz Arroyo Jr. was a Filipino statesman and key figure in the 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution that ousted dictator Ferdinand Marcos. He was a Congressman for Makati from 1992 to 2001 and Senator from 2001 to 2013. Arroyo received various awards and commendations for his significant contributions to the law profession and public service. Among these are the Philippine Bar Association's Most Distinguished Award for Justice as a "man beholden to no one except to his country" and Senate Resolution No. 100 enacted in the 8th Congress citing his invaluable service to the Filipino people. He was also known for being the thriftiest legislator, earning the title of "Scrooge of Congress", as he only had few staff members without bodyguards and did not use his pork barrel funds. In 2018, Arroyo was identified by the Human Rights Victims' Claims Board as a Motu proprio human rights violations victim of the Martial Law Era.

At the 2012 Summer Olympics he competed in the Individual and Team eventing, but fell during the cross-country event and did not finish. Beatriz Ferrer-Salat Serra de Migui is an equestrian from Spain who competes internationally in the sport of dressage. She won two Olympic medals, a silver and a bronze, at the 2004 Games, and also competed at the 1996 Summer Olympics, 2000 Summer Olympics, 2016 Summer Olympics and 2020 Summer Olympics. She began riding in international competitions in 1995, and has since competed in the 2002 World Equestrian Games, winning individual silver and team bronze, and in several European Dressage Championships, where she has won several additional individual and team medals. Based in Spain, Ferrer-Salat continues to compete internationally, as well as acting as the chair of the board for the Spanish Dressage Riders Club.
