Jon Siren (born May 4, 1978) is an American musician and the co-founder and drummer of the band Mankind Is Obsolete. He has been a drummer or keyboardist in many other industrial bands, including Psyclon Nine, Dismantled, and System Syn. Since 2015, he has been mostly associated as the touring drummer for IAMX.
Siren grew up in Columbus, Ohio and developed an early love of music in the time of MTV. His first performance instruments were guitar and bass before taking on the drums in his late teens. [2]
When in Columbus, Siren played in local grindcore and punk bands such as Medium and Inept [2] [3] in his teens in the mid-to-late '90s.
While living in New York City in his early 20s, he met Kevorkian Death Cycle, who were interested in taking him on as their new drummer. A fan of their work, Siren moved out to Los Angeles, considering their offer, but by the time he had arrived, the band had broken up. [2]
Once in Los Angeles, Siren attended the Musicians Institute. Columbus area collaborators Kristy Venrick of The Azoic and Steve Creighton of The Wake helped him establish California musical contacts. [4] By 2001, Siren had joined Christopher Anton's synthpop band, Pseudocipher, [5] and Evelyne Bennu's art-industrial band Flesh for Eve [4] [6]
Siren met Natasha Cox at the Musicians Institute in Los Angeles and recognized that they had similar tastes in music after seeing each other wearing the same Sisters of Mercy T-shirts. [7] [8] The two played in a jazz band together and in 2002 Cox also joined Pseudocipher. [9]
By the fall of 2002, Siren and Cox had formed Mankind is Obsolete. [10] With Cox on keyboards and Siren on drums, they began recording what would become their first EP, Metamorph. Some of the recording was done at the school's facilities, some in Siren's apartment using ProTools, [7] and some in Cox's apartment bedroom. [11] By February 2003, a live band had been assembled adding Jamie Roy on bass, Mark Nurre on guitars and Nathan Trowbridge on keyboards and running the light show. [10]
During this time period, beginning around 2002, Siren had also been part of Steven Seibold's Hate Dept., primarily as a keyboardist, and was involved in Hate Dept.'s 2003 album Ditch. Seibold performed additional recording and mixing duties on Metamorph, which was released in August 2003. [7]
Siren's direct involvement with Hate Dept. wound down in 2004 as MKIO took off. For a while he continued to be involved in Chris Anton's projects including both Pseudocipher as well as 101, a Depeche Mode cover band. [12]
By 2005, Siren had become a fan of Gary Zon's Dismantled [13] and by the fall of 2006, he began occasionally filling in as the band's live drummer. This included a trip to 2007's Wave-Gotik-Treffen accompanied by fellow MKIO member Brian DiDomenico on keyboards [14]
After Mankind Is Obsolete's Trapped Inside tour, Siren and fellow MKIO member Scott Landes joined Kidneythieves as part of their live band in mid to late 2008. That September Siren recorded drum tracks for Angel Bartolotta's Team Cybergeist project, [15] which eventually appeared on 2009's How to Destroy Something Beautiful. [16]
In the spring of 2009 Siren became the drummer of Psyclon Nine for the recording of We the Fallen and its associated tour. [17] but following that tour, in 2010 P9 indefinitely disbanded. However, Clint Carney of Imperative Reaction, who toured with Psyclon Nine in 2009, brought Siren into his other band System Syn by 2010.
In 2009, Siren's involvement with Dismantled became a more regular event, appearing in extended tours, [18] sometimes on the same bill as Psyclon Nine. By 2010, Zon was promising that in their upcoming album "Jon Siren, the Dismantled drummer is also going to be heard more on this album than before." [19] In addition, Siren has occasionally served as touring drummer for one of Zon's other project's Aerodrone [2]
In 2011, Siren and MKIO co-founder, Cox appeared as part of the live band for Adam Moore's indie industrial band, Inure. [20] Later in 2011, Siren was involved with the Triptych Tour which featured Imperative Reaction, God Module and System Syn. On that tour Siren played keyboards/percussion for God Module and drums for System Syn. The tour also was part of the Goth Cruise which went to Puerto Rico, Bahamas and the US Virgin Islands.
In 2012, Siren toured with Dismantled in North America along with Accessory and Cyanide Regime. The tour featured Nero Bellum from Psyclon Nine on guitars. Following this tour, Siren switched to drums in God Module and embarked in a North American tour with God Module to support the Seance album. The rest of that year included tours with Psyclon Nine, Christopher Anton, Imperative Reaction and Ludovico Technique. Siren is now the guitar player for Imperative Reaction. In 2012, Siren also appeared in the Dawn Of Ashes music video for "Fuck Like You're In Hell" on the drums.
As of 2013, he has also drummed for September Mourning, Dawn of Ashes, [2] and Early Man (band). [21] In the fall of 2013 he embarked on "The Hellions Of Hollywood Tour" featuring Psyclon Nine and Dawn Of Ashes and drummed for both bands. He has been featured on drums in the video "Live Fast Die Loud" by Beasto Blanco featuring Chuck Garric of Alice Cooper. He has also been featured in the new Psyclon Nine video "Use Once and Destroy" on the drums as well as the new Dawn Of Ashes video "Poisoning The Steps Of Babel." Jon Siren finished off the year working on new albums with Early Man (band) and Mankind Is Obsolete.
In 2014, he filled in as a tour drummer for Information Society for two dates in May in Columbia, [22] and for White Empress for several dates in October in the midwest. [23] In 2014, Jon also recorded two releases with Early Man "Thank God You've Got the Answers for Us All" and "The Halloween ep."
In 2015, Siren filled in for more Information Society dates in the US during the Spring. He also recorded drums with Scott Carlson of "Repulsion" for "Morbid Tales" Celtic Frost tribute album under the name Coffin's Slave. The release included a cover of Hellhammer's "The Reaper" on a bonus flexi. In addition to that recording, he drummed on the upcoming album from Los Angeles doom/black metal band "Ancestral Awakening." Recently, Siren has been recruited to play drums for the upcoming IAMX tour supporting the new album Metanoia.
In 2017, Siren filled in on drums for a tour with industrial music pioneers Front Line Assembly. The tour also featured legendary industrial bands Revolting Cocks and Cubanate and was centered around LA's Coldwaves Festival at The Regent as well as the Wax Trax Documentary "Industrial Accident" premiere at the Montalban Theater in Hollywood, CA.
During the rest periods of the 1+1⁄2-year tour cycle with IAMX, Siren wrote his first book titled "The Touring Vegan" which contains information about his background as a long-term vegan who travels regularly. It explains Siren's views on animal issues, diet, lifestyle and includes tips on how to navigate in a world that is not set up conveniently for vegans. It was released in an e-book format in 2017 and there are plans for a physical release in 2018.
Pitchshifter are an English industrial rock band from Nottingham, formed in 1989. The band was started by lead guitarist and programmer Johnny A. Carter, and bassist and vocalist Mark Clayden. The band’s early material was characterized for its gritty industrial metal sound with downtuned guitars and the use of drum machines, and has been cited as one of the originators of the genre along with Godflesh. With later albums the group's music became increasingly more melodic and strongly influenced by nu metal and drum and bass; particularly evident of their 1998 release www.pitchshifter.com, which has been compared with groups like The Prodigy.
Fear Factory is an American heavy metal band formed in Los Angeles in 1989. Throughout the band's career, they have released ten full-length albums and have evolved through a succession of sounds, all in their main style of industrial metal. Over the years, Fear Factory has seen frequent changes in its lineup, with lead vocalist Burton C. Bell being the only consistent member for 31 years until his departure in 2020. Other than guitarist Dino Cazares, there are no original members left in its current lineup. The band went on hold in March 2002 following some internal disputes, but resumed activity a year later without founding member Cazares. Previous bassist Christian Olde Wolbers replaced him as the new guitarist, and bassist Byron Stroud joined the band. In April 2009, a new lineup was announced. Cazares returned as guitarist, and Gene Hoglan as drummer. Bell and Stroud reprised their respective roles, and this lineup recorded the band's seventh studio album titled Mechanize (2010). Former members Wolbers and Raymond Herrera—both of whom were playing in Arkaea—disputed the legitimacy of the new lineup, and a legal battle from both parties had begun. Despite this, Fear Factory has since released three more albums: The Industrialist (2012), Genexus (2015) and Aggression Continuum (2021).

Formed in 1994 as Burn the Priest, the group consists of bassist John Campbell, vocalist Randy Blythe, guitarists Mark Morton and Willie Adler, and drummer Art Cruz. It Dies Today is an American metalcore band that formed in Buffalo, New York during September 2001. The band achieved popular success in 2004 with the release of their debut album, The Caitiff Choir. After frontman Nicholas Brooks departed in 2006, just after the release of the band's sophomore effort Sirens, It Dies Today released Lividity in 2009 before going on hiatus in 2010. The band reunited briefly for a show in 2012, but the reunion paused again in 2015.
IAMX is the solo musical project of Chris Corner of the band Sneaker Pimps. Founded in 2004 in London, it is an independent music project which also focuses on and experiments with visual art. Musically, IAMX spans multiple genres from electronic rock and dance music to burlesque-influenced songs and emotional ballads. Corner's striking and wide-ranging voice, and his way of programming sounds and beats, make up the obvious characteristic of the IAMX sound.
Psyclon Nine is an American band formed in 2000 in San Francisco, CA, known for their unique blend of electronic, industrial metal and black metal. Originally, Psyclon Nine's music was Terror EBM with melancholic darkwave/gothic atmospheres and black metal style vocals. However, the band has since evolved a more industrial/black metal sound.
Christopher Anton, alternately styled christopher ANTON,, is an American singer-songwriter. Anton is known for being the vocalist of the synthpop band Information Society, as well as the synth rock band Pseudocipher. In 2010, Anton gained popularity as a solo artist with the release of his cover version of the dance single "Fade to Grey". After the success of "Fade to Grey", Anton released his debut album Destination: X.

Everything Goes Cold is an American industrial band from California. Their lead singer, Eric Gottesman, is notable as a founding member of Industrial Metal band Psyclon Nine, and a live musician with Ayria, Caustic, XP8, Unter Null, and a number of other industrial bands. Everything Goes Cold has released two full-length albums to date, 2009's vs. General Failure and 2014's Black Out the Sun as well as two remix EPs and several digital singles. Both albums met with critical acclaim within the industrial music community. The first album featured guest appearances from Daniel Myer and other industrial luminaries, as well as production by Ted Phelps of Imperative Reaction, and the second was produced by Wade Alin of Christ Analogue and The Atomica Project.
Finite Automata is an American dark electronic and electro industrial music group from Atlanta, Georgia. Originally formed in Pensacola, Florida in 2006, they have been based out of Atlanta, Georgia since 2013 and currently consist of vocalist, producer, and lyricist Mod Eschar, keyboardist Scott Storey, and guitarist Timothy Miller. They are known for their deep layered sound, frequent experimental live use of sound making devices such as radios and tapedecks, and their highly politically charged, confrontational, and theatrical stage performances. The group's name stems from the computer science concept of Finite State Machines, used as a metaphor for the predictability of human behavior. The band cites 1980s and 1990s electro-industrial groups Skinny Puppy, Front Line Assembly, and Project Pitchfork as their primary influences. Much of their early work has been referred to as a "throwback" as much of its style is reminiscent of early electro-industrial as opposed to the more recent and popular Aggrotech offshoot. Their more recent work draws heavily on industrial rock and the darker and more experimental sounds of second and third generation industrial like with previous releases, but with a healthy dose of modern production stylings and a more updated sound.
