Jonathan Figy (born 25 August 2001) is a cricketer who plays for the United Arab Emirates national cricket team. He is a left-handed batsman. [1] [2] [3]

Personal life

Figy was born in Dubai to Indian parents. He attended Abu Dhabi Indian School, [4] then in 2017 moved to England to attend Winchester College on a cricket scholarship, where he led the school team in runs in both seasons he played. [5] He matriculated to Leeds University in 2019, [6] [7] returning to the UAE in 2023. [8]

Cricket career

In December 2019, Figy was named in the One Day International (ODI) squad for the 2019 United Arab Emirates Tri-Nation Series. [9] He made his ODI debut for the UAE, against Scotland on 15 December 2019, [10] and was one of three university students in the UAE's team. [11] Later the same month, he was named in the UAE's squad for the 2020 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. [12] In the UAE's first match of the tournament, against Canada, he scored an unbeaten 102 runs. [13] It was the first century by a batsman for the United Arab Emirates in a U19 Cricket World Cup match. [14] He was the leading run-scorer for the UAE in the tournament, with 197 runs in six matches. [15]

In May 2023, Figy returned to the UAE national squad for an ODI series against the West Indies. [8]

The United Arab Emirates men's national cricket team is the team that represents the United Arab Emirates in international cricket. Muhammad Usman is a Pakistani-born cricketer who plays for the United Arab Emirates national cricket team. He made his first-class debut for the United Arab Emirates against the Netherlands in the 2015–17 ICC Intercontinental Cup on 21 January 2016. Usman's List A debut was also against the Netherlands, in the 2015–17 ICC World Cricket League Championship, on 27 January 2016. His Twenty20 International debut too was against the Netherlands on 3 February 2016. Usman made his One Day International debut against Scotland on 14 August 2016 in the 2015–17 ICC World Cricket League Championship.

Aqib Ilyas Sulehri is a Pakistani-born cricketer who has played for the Oman national cricket team since 2015. He is a right-handed top-order batsman and spin bowler.

Saurabh Naresh Netravalkar is an Indian-born American cricketer who has captained the United States team. He is a left-arm medium-fast bowler who represented the India under-19 team. He made his first-class debut for Mumbai in the 2013–14 Ranji Trophy on 22 December 2013. He made his List A debut on 27 February 2014, for Mumbai in the 2013–14 Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Karthik Palaniapan Meiyappan is an Indian-born cricketer who plays for the United Arab Emirates national cricket team as a right-arm leg spin bowler. He made his One Day International (ODI) debut for the UAE in 2019 and also represented the UAE at the 2020 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. Meiyappan made history being the first ever UAE player to take a hat-trick, the first UAE player to take a hat-trick in a T20 World Cup, and the first player from an ICC associate member to take a hat-trick against an ICC full member.

The Ireland cricket team toured the United Arab Emirates in January 2021 to play four One Day International (ODI) matches between 8 and 18 January 2021. The matches served as preparation for Ireland's World Cup Super League fixtures against Afghanistan in the UAE.
