Josef Köstlinger (born 24 October 1946) is an Austrian operatic tenor.
Born in Braunau am Inn, Köstlinger attended the teacher training college in Salzburg. In 1968 he came to Sweden and took up singing studies in Stockholm. He was engaged in the chamber choir of the Swedish Radio Orchestra. He worked there with Eric Ericson. He sang at the world premiere of the opera Tintomara by Lars Johan Werle on 18 January 1973. He became known in 1975 in the role of Tamino in Ingmar Bergman's adaptation of the Mozart opera The Magic Flute . [1]
In 1974 he was invited to the Salzburger Landestheater, where he performed for 30 years. At first he sang lyrical, later also buffo and character roles. He also sang at the Salzburg Festival. [1]

He was a member of the Bavarian State Opera from 1942 to 1977 and also appeared at international opera houses and festivals, especially in roles by Richard Strauss. Scheduled to sing in the 1944 world premiere of Die Liebe der Danae at the Salzburg Festival, which did not take place, he performed in both the English premiere at the Royal Opera House in London and the Swiss premiere at the Opernhaus Zürich. Margareta Sjöstedt, also Sjöstedt-Kraus, (1923–2012) was a Swedish-Austrian contralto who received voice training in Stockholm, Salzburg and Vienna. She gave her first lieder recital in 1951 in Stockholm. From 1955 until her retirement in 1982, she was engaged by the Vienna State Opera where she took part in over a thousand performances, appearing in parallel in lieder recitals and at the Salzburg Festivals. She was a guest singer in the opera houses of Madrid, Lisbon, Dublin and Berlin and gave recitals in Paris and London.
Karl Ettl was an Austrian operatic bass singer. He was an ensemble member of the Vienna State Opera from 1924 to 1945 and made regular guest appearances at the Salzburg Festival.
