Joseph Narh Adinkrah was born on 19 April 1950 in Somanya, in the Eastern Region of Ghana. [3]
He attended Accra Academy from 1965 to 1970 where he obtained his General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level Certificate. He enrolled into the sixth form at Ghana Secondary Technical School (GSTS) in Takoradi from 1970 to 1972, with intermittent military training during the holidays. [4]
On completion of the sixth form course, he did a one year training at the Ghana Military Academy and was commissioned into the Ghana Army as a Second Lieutenant on 21 July 1973. [3] From February to April 1998, he attended the International Defence Management Course at the Naval Post-Graduate School, Monterey, California, in the United States of America. Adinkrah is also a 2005 graduate of the South African National Defence College’s Executive National Security Programme.
In March 2009, Adinkrah was appointed as Chief of the Army Staff in a total change in the army high command under President John Atta-Mills. [5] Before his appointment as the Chief of the Army Staff, he was the General Officer Commanding of the Northern Command of the Ghana Army. [6]

The Ghana Secondary Technical School is a science and technology-oriented high school located in Takoradi on the west coast of Ghana. It is the third oldest high school in Ghana - the oldest 'non-missionary' high school. The School was founded on 9 August 1909 in Accra as Accra Technical School and later changed to Government Technical School. It moved to its current site in Takoradi in 1939. In 1953, the name was changed to Government Secondary Technical School, and in 1970, it was given its current name. Former students of the school are known as Giants, and students in the school are called Tescans.

Lieutenant General Winston Mensa-Wood was a former Ghanaian military officer and served as the twenty-third Chief of Defence Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces from June 1990 to March 1992. He took over from Lieutenant General Arnold Quainoo but died in office. He was replaced by Air Marshal Achilles Harry Kwami Dumashie. Prior to that, he was Chief of Army Staff from 1987 to 1990.
Lieutenant General Ben Akafia is a retired Ghanaian military officer and served as the Chief of Defence Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces from October 1996 to February 2001. He took over from Air Marshal Achilles Harry Kwami Dumashie and handed over to Lieutenant General Seth Kofi Obeng. He was appointed in 2001 as Ghana's Ambassador to Egypt. He was awarded the National Honour of Member of the Order of the Star of Ghana (MSG) by the President of Ghana on 6 January 2001. He has five sons and a daughter.
Lieutenant General Obed Boamah Akwa is a retired Ghanaian military officer who served as the Chief of the Defence Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces from February 2017 to February 2021. Prior to his appointment, he was the Chief of Army Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces.
Military Institute of Technology (MILIT), Pune is a tri-services training institution of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of India. It trains selected officers of the three services of Indian Armed Forces and officers from friendly foreign countries for command and staff appointments. It conducts the Defence Services Technical Staff Course (DSTSC) for the Indian Army, Indian Airforce and Indian Navy Officers. The institute has a faculty of senior officers from all three services and scientists who provide specialized training on technologies, military warfare, procurement procedures and operational logistics to the student officers. The course trains officers to handle senior commands and staff appointments in the future. On successful completion of the course the officers are awarded with a degree of M.Sc in Military Technology from Pune University. Officers in the service bracket of 9 to 14 years attend this course. Most officers attending this course are of the rank of Major or Lt Col and equivalent.
Vice Admiral Seth Amoama was the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) of the Ghana Armed Forces. He was appointed by President Akufo Addo in January 2021 and retired effective January 2024. He replaced Lieutenant General Obed Akwa, who retired at the start of February 2021. Prior to that he was the Chief of Naval Staff of the Ghana Navy appointed since 2019.
Lieutenant General Thomas Oppong-Peprah is a Ghanaian military officer who is currently Chief of the Defence Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces. His appointment to the position by President Akuffo-Addo was announced on 24 January 2024 to take effect from 1 February, 2024. He took over from Seth Amoama. Oppong-Peprah also serves as a member of the Governing council of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO).
Rear Admiral Issah Adam Yakubu is a Ghanaian military officer currently serving as the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) of the Ghana Navy. He assumed the position on 5 February 2021, following his appointment by the President of Ghana and Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces. Rear Admiral Yakubu was confirmed as the 18th Chief of the Naval Staff by the President on 4 March 2021.
