Joseph Santo is a former Republican member of the Connecticut Senate,representing Norwalk and part of Darien,Connecticut in Connecticut's 25th District from 1986 to 1987. He won the seat in a special election to fill a vacancy caused by the death of State Senator Andrew J. Santaniello,Jr. He defeated John Atkin for the seat,but was defeated by Atkin later the same year in the general election. [1] [2]
After his term in the Connecticut Senate,he was elected to the Norwalk Common Council. He also served on the Norwalk Zoning Commission. [3]
Norwalk is a city located in southwestern Connecticut,United States,in southern Fairfield County,on the northern shore of Long Island Sound. Norwalk lies within both the New York metropolitan area and the Bridgeport metropolitan area.
The 1988 United States Senate elections was an election for the United States Senate in which,in spite of the Republican victory by George H. W. Bush in the presidential election,the Democrats gained a net of one seat in the Senate. Seven seats changed parties,with four incumbents being defeated. The Democratic majority in the Senate increased by one from 54–to–46 to 55–to–45. This is the last Senate election in which California voted for a Republican and both Texas and Maine voted for Democrats. This would also be the last Senate election until 1998 to not have at least one special election during that cycle.

William Morten Tong is an American lawyer and politician who is the 25th and current Attorney General of Connecticut. Born in Hartford,Connecticut,Tong attended Brown University and the University of Chicago Law School. He began his career as an attorney with the law firms Simpson Thacher &Bartlett and Finn Dixon &Herling. In 2006,Tong entered politics upon winning election to the Connecticut House of Representatives to represent the 147th district,which includes most of North Stamford. Serving six terms in the House from 2007 to 2019,Tong chaired the banking committee from 2011 to 2015 and the judiciary committee from 2015 to 2019.
The 2010 United States Senate election in Connecticut was a midterm election which took place on November 2,2010 to decide a Class III Senator from the State of Connecticut to join the 112th United States Congress. Incumbent Democratic U.S. Senator Chris Dodd suffered from dropping approval ratings in the past few years due to major controversies,leading him to announce in January 2010 that he would retire,instead of seeking a sixth term. As Dodd was a Democrat,Richard Blumenthal,incumbent State Attorney General,announced on the same day that he would run for Dodd's seat. The Connecticut Democratic Party nominated Blumenthal on May 21. Businesswoman Linda McMahon won the state party's nominating convention and the August 10 Republican primary to become the Republican candidate. This was the first open Senate seat in Connecticut since 1980. Blumenthal was the only non-incumbent Democrat to win a non-special election in 2010.
