Josephine Ojiambo (born 1961) was a Kenyan ambassador to the United Nations who served as a deputy secretary-general of the Commonwealth.
Ojiambo graduated in medicine and surgery and later took a masters degree in Community Medicine and Public Health. She led a Public Health Consultancy in Kenya. [1]
She served within various ministries before she was appointed as the Kenyan ambassador to the United Nations. She was serving as the UN's Head of External Relations when she was recruited and appointed by Kamalesh Sharma [2] as one
of the three deputy secretaries-general of the Commonwealth. [3] She succeeded Mmasekgoa Masire-Mwamba. She expected to serve for two terms but at the end of the first term the concept of three deputies was abolished and her contract was not renewed. She sued and won a case for unfair dismissal. Moreover, her claim that she had been side-lined by the new secretary general, Patricia Scotland, was upheld. [4]
In 2019, Ojiamo was involved with launching a Women Business Network chapter in Kenya to take up the "Commonwealth advantage". The scheme was running in other African countries like Malawi and South Africa. [5] During the COVID-19 pandemic, she was Rotary's health focal point in Kenya and she was concerned that the lack of vaccinations in children that may lead to a return of polio. [6]
The Commonwealth Secretariat is the main intergovernmental agency and central institution of the Commonwealth of Nations. It is responsible for facilitating co-operation between members; organising meetings, including the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meetings (CHOGM); assisting and advising on policy development; and providing assistance to countries in implementing the decisions and policies of the Commonwealth.

Hon. Mutahi Kagwe is the former cabinet secretary for Health in the Republic of Kenya. He assumed office on 28 February 2020 after the docket was handed over to him by the previous cabinet secretary for Health, Sicily Kariuki. He hit the airwaves at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic when the first case was confirmed in Nairobi on 12 March 2020 following the outbreak in Wuhan, China in December 2019. As the pandemic intensified, the government of Kenya imposed lockdowns in the virus hotspot areas, dusk-to-dawn curfews, travel bans, and other restrictions to try to contain the spread of COVID-19. He was succeeded by Susan Nakhumicha Wafula on 31 October 2022.
The Deputy Secretary-General of the Commonwealth assists the Secretary-General in managing the operations of the Commonwealth Secretariat, which is the central institution of the Commonwealth. The current Deputy Secretary-General is Dr Arjoon Suddhoo of Mauritius. Dr Suddhoo's appointment was announced in February 2019 after an open and competitive process, and he took up the post in April 2019.

Before joining the IFRC, she served as Chief of the Secretariat of the World Humanitarian Summit at the United Nations in New York, heading the humanitarian branch at the United National Population Fund, Chief of the Humanitarian Response Branch at UNFPA in 2011, President of the Malaysian Medical Relief Society from its foundation in June 1999 to a decade later in 2009. Mercy Malaysia is a medical charity she founded in June 1999, inspired by the Médecins Sans Frontières. In 2008, she was one of the 16 members appointed by Ban Ki-moon, the former Secretary-General of the United Nations to Advisory Group of the Central Emergency Response Fund.
Agnes Binagwaho is a Rwandan pediatrician and co-founder and the former vice chancellor of the University of Global Health Equity (2017-2022). In 1996, she returned to Rwanda where she provided clinical care in the public sector as well as held many positions including the position of Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Health of Rwanda from October 2008 until May 2011 and Minister of Health from May 2011 until July 2016. She has been a Professor of Global Health Delivery Practice since 2016 and a Professor of Pediatrics since 2017 at the University of Global Health Equity. She resides in Kigali.

She is the immediate former Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Heritage and Culture in Kenya. She previously served as chairwoman of the International Organization for Migration and the World Trade Organization's General Council, as well as Assistant Secretary-General and Deputy Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme. She served as the Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs of Kenya from May 2013 to February 2018, when President Uhuru Kenyatta, after re-election, moved her to the Education docket. In March 2019, she was moved to the Sports Ministry replacing Rashid Echesa. The KNEC Director, George Magoha replaced her in the Education docket.
The 2022 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, also known as CHOGM 2022, was the 26th Meeting of the Heads of Government of the Commonwealth of Nations. The meeting was originally scheduled for 26–27 June 2020 in Kigali, Rwanda preceded by various fora between 22 and 25 June, but was postponed twice due to the COVID-19 pandemic. On 31 January 2022, it was announced that the meeting would be held on 24 and 25 June 2022 and the pre-meeting fora held from 20 to 23 June.
Dame Sandra Prunella Mason is a Barbadian politician, lawyer, and diplomat who is serving as the first president of Barbados since 2021. She was previously the eighth and final governor-general of Barbados from 2018 to 2021, the second woman to hold the office.
