Josh Newman is an American basketball coach who is currently an assistant coach for the Western Kentucky University men's basketball team. Newman served as the interim head coach of the Pacific Tigers men's basketball team during the 2024 West Coast Conference men's basketball tournament.

Coaching career

After various stints as an assistant coach, Newman served as the head coach for the University of Arkansas–Fort Smith for twelve years, accumulating a record of 238121 and leading the Lions to four NCAA Division II Tournament appearances. [1] Newman then served as the head coach at the University of Texas Permian Basin for three seasons, finishing with a 3942 overall record before resigning. [2] [3]

On March 4, 2024, Newman was named the interim head coach for the Tigers, following the firing of Leonard Perry. [4]

On May 6, 2024, Newman was hired as an assistant coach at Western Kentucky University under Hank Plona. [5]

The 2015–16 Pacific Tigers men's basketball team represented the University of the Pacific during the 2015–16 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. They played their home games at the Alex G. Spanos Center and were members of the West Coast Conference. The Tigers were led by third-year head coach Ron Verlin. On December 12, 2015, Verlin was suspended indefinitely amid an NCAA investigation. Assistant coach Mike Burns was named the interim head coach for the remainder of the season. The Tigers also self-imposed a postseason ban for 2016 which included the WCC Tournament. They finished the season 8–20, 6–12 in WCC play to finish in a three-way tie for seventh place

Teresa Lawrence Phillips was the athletic director at Tennessee State University, a post she had held since 2001. She was one of the few female athletic directors at a school that sponsors football.
