Career

After two years at a fabric warehouse, Pate pursued his passion for college football by reaching out to Columbus' ESPN Radio affiliate. He seized a chance to make his radio debut, impressing the audience and securing a job with the local NBC affiliate. There, he hosted a college football show and later became sports director and anchor, covering both news and sports. [1] This led to a partnership with 247Sports, allowing him to expand his reach and provide in-depth coverage of trends, games, and recruiting. By 2021, Pate had solidified his reputation as a rising star, with 247Sports recognizing his growing influence and potential. [2]

Choosing to create his own content, Pate launched "Late Kick," delivering college football commentary through platforms like YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram. After about two years, the show gained significant traction, leading to an offer from 247Sports, a CBS-owned network, prompting Pate to relocate the show from Columbus to Nashville, Tennessee. [3] [2]

In August 2024, Josh Pate renewed his contract with CBS Sports, recognizing the advantages of combining independent content creation with the resources of a major media company. This partnership allowed him to maintain ownership of his intellectual property while benefiting from CBS's extensive distribution networks. [4]

As reported by Chartable.com, Josh Pate's program ranks as the third most-listened-to football podcast in the U.S. and the 15th most popular sports podcast nationwide. [4]
