Joshua Vincent Reyes is a Filipino basketball coach who is the head coach of the Philippines men's national under-17 basketball team.

Career

Reyes has been an assistant coach for the Far Eastern University, TNT Tropang Giga, and the Philippine national team. [1]

TNT Tropang Giga

At the 2022 Philippine Cup Finals, Reyes was able to lead the coaching of the team in Game 7 after his father, the head coach of the team by that time was rendered unavailable due to COVID-19 pandemic protocols. [2]

Philippines youth

He became part of the Philippine national youth program when he was made part of the staff of head coach Mike Oliver of the team which took part in the 2017 FIBA Under-16 Asian Championship and the 2018 FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup. [3]

Reyes would be elevated as head coach and made to lead the Philippine U18 youth team which took part in the 2018 FIBA Under-18 Asian Championship. The team finished fourth, clinching the country a place in the 2019 FIBA Under-19 Basketball World Cup in Greece. [1]

However he would be removed from his position, following a "reshuffling" in the whole Philippine national team program in response to the Philippines–Australia brawl in July 2018, which involved his father Chot. [1]

Reyes returned to the youth program, coaching the U17 team. He would help them qualify for the 2024 FIBA Under-17 Basketball World Cup after reaching the semifinals of the 2023 FIBA U16 Asian Championship in Qatar. [4]

In September 2023, Reyes was tapped as one of the assistant coach of the national team for the 2023 Asian Games. [5]

Reyes was an analyst for the ASEAN Basketball League. [1]

Personal life

Reyes is the son of Chot Reyes, who has been the head coach of the Philippines men's national basketball team and various teams in the Philippine Basketball Association. [1] His mother is Cherry Reyes, who is a businesswoman. [6]

He is married to Maybel Natividad, daughter of film director Toto Natividad. [7]

The 24-team tournament began on August 30, and the winner automatically qualifies for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The Philippines national basketball team in 2014 led by head coach Chot Reyes first tournament was the 2014 FIBA Asia Cup where they managed to finish third. The team had a series training camps in Miami in the United States, in Antibes, France where they participated in a pocket tournament, and Spain the host country of the FIBA World Cup. They returned to the FIBA World Cup after 36 years last participating in the 1978 edition. The national team did not get past the group stage with only a lone win against Senegal. The win against Senegal was the Philippines first win at the FIBA World Cup since 1974. However the national team did not meet expectations at the Asian Games and failed to reach the medal round. Head Chot Reyes is later replaced by Tab Baldwin who assumed Reyes' former post the next year.

The Philippines men's national basketball team, led by head coach Chot Reyes qualified for the 2017 FIBA Asia Cup and the first round of the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup Asian qualifiers by earning the sole Southeast Asia berth at the 2017 SEABA Championship.
