Joshua Karty (born March 7, 2002) is an American professional football kicker for the Los Angeles Rams of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Stanford Cardinal.
Karty is the son of Valerie and Joel Karty, and is from Elon, North Carolina. [1] He was born on March 7, 2002. Karty played high school football at Western Alamance High School, as a placekicker and punter. [2] He was ranked a consensus three-star prospect and the No. 1 kicking prospect in his class across 247Sports, [3] Kohl's Kicking, [4] and ESPN [5] rankings. Karty earned a spot, and played in the 2020 Under Armour All-America Game. [6]
Karty committed to Stanford on a full-scholarship, on January 20, 2019. He held scholarship offers from multiple other schools, including Georgia, UNC, and Appalachian State. [3]
In Karty's first season in 2021, he went 27 for 27 on extra points and ten for fifteen on his field goals. [7] During the 2022 season, he had his best performance versus Arizona State as he made five field goals as he helped Stanford beat Arizona State 15–14. [2] Karty also had another outstanding performance in week eight of the 2022 season, where he went three for three in a win over Notre Dame, where for his performance he was named the Pac-12 special teams player of the week. [8] Karty finished the 2022 season going 24 for 25 on his extra point attempts and 18 for 18 on field goal attempts, with a long of 61 yards. [9] For his performance on the season, he was a finalist for the Lou Groza Award which is awarded to the nation's best kicker. [10]
Heading into the 2023 season, Karty was named preseason first-team All-American. [11] In week seven of the 2023 season, Karty made a 47-yard game-tying field goal to send the game into overtime, and then made the game-winning field goal in overtime, as he helped Stanford come back down 29–0 to beat Colorado 46–43 in double overtime. [12] During the 2023 season, Karty went 21 for 21 on extra points and 23 for 27 on his field goal attempts. [13] After the conclusion of the 2023 season, Karty declared for the 2024 NFL draft. Joshua Taylor Scobee is an American former professional football placekicker. He was selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the fifth round of the 2004 NFL draft. He also played for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He played college football at Louisiana Tech, setting several school records.
Russell Erxleben is an American former professional football player and investor. A highly decorated college kicker for the University of Texas, Erxleben was a three-time All-American punter and set the record for the longest successful field goal in NCAA history at 67 yards, which is still tied today. He was unexpectedly selected by the New Orleans Saints in the first round of the 1979 NFL draft as a combination kicker and punter, where he remains the highest drafted punter and the second highest kicker in NFL history. Erxleben only spent six years in the NFL and was widely described as one of the Saints' biggest draft busts. He later became a currency investor, and was convicted of securities fraud in 1999. Although he was released in 2005, he was once again convicted of investment fraud in 2014 and sentenced to 90 months in federal prison.
Robert Paul Gould III is an American former professional football player who was a placekicker for 18 seasons in the National Football League (NFL) with the Chicago Bears, New York Giants and San Francisco 49ers. He played college football for the Penn State Nittany Lions. Gould was originally signed by the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent in 2005. He played with the Bears from 2005 to 2015, earning first-team All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors in 2006, and became the franchise's all-time leading scorer.
Joshua Clell Brown is an American former professional football player who was a placekicker in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Brown was selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the seventh round of the 2003 NFL draft. He also played for the St. Louis Rams, Cincinnati Bengals and New York Giants.
Mason Walker Crosby is an American professional football placekicker who is a free agent. He played college football at Colorado, and earned unanimous All-American honors. The Green Bay Packers selected him in the sixth round of the 2007 NFL draft.
Garrett Hartley is a former American football placekicker. He was signed by the Denver Broncos as an undrafted free agent in 2008. Later that year he became the placekicker for the New Orleans Saints, for whom he set an NFL record for most consecutive successful field goals to start a career, and then became the first kicker in NFL history to convert three field goals of more than 40 yards in the Super Bowl. The Saints won Super Bowl XLIV, beating the Indianapolis Colts. He played college football at Oklahoma.
Kai August Forbath is an American former professional football placekicker who played in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the UCLA Bruins, earning consensus All-American honors and winning the Lou Groza Award in 2009. He played in the NFL for the Dallas Cowboys, Washington Redskins, New Orleans Saints, Minnesota Vikings, Jacksonville Jaguars, New England Patriots, Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Rams.
