Josipa Kafadar (born February 2, 2001) is a Canadian taekwondo athlete. [1] Kafadar is a former World Junior medallist and has qualified to compete for Canada at the 2024 Summer Olympics.

Career

Kafadar's first major international result came in 2018, when she won the silver medal at the World Junior Championships in Hammamet, Tunisia. [2] Kafadar lost the gold medal match by one point to Vietnam's Thi Kim Ngan Ho. [3] Kafadar's senior career has seen her win gold medals at the 2023 British and Luxembourg Opens respectively, among other successes. [1]

In January 2024, Kafadar was named to Canada's 2024 Olympic qualification team. [4] Kafadar would go on to qualify for the 2024 Summer Olympics at the Pan American Taekwondo Olympic Qualification Tournament in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. [5] [6] Kafadar was officially named to Canada's 2024 Olympic team in April 2024. [7] [8]

Kafadar is currently a biophysics student at Simon Fraser University. [9]

Sarah Chaâri is a taekwondo practitioner from Belgium. She won the gold medal in the women's lightweight event at the 2022 World Taekwondo Championships in Guadalajara, Mexico and became Belgium's first female World Taekwondo champion. In doing so, Chaâri also became the first-ever Taekwondo fighter to win golds at both Junior and Senior World Championships in the same year. The Belgian, who moved up to the senior division in 2022, had previously won gold in the 2022 World Taekwondo Junior Championships in Sofia in August.
