The Journal of Film Preservation (JFP) is a journal published twice a year by FIAF, the International Federation of Film Archives. [1]
The journal was founded in 1972. [1] It was published under the title of FIAF Information Bulletin from 1972 to 1993. Initially a newsletter for affiliates of FIAF, it has become over the years a more scholarly magazine, offering a forum for both general and specialised discussions on all theoretical, technical and historical aspects of moving image archival activities around the world. It is a trilingual journal – articles are written in English, French or Spanish, and include summaries in the other two languages. A new design, combined with a more modern editorial content was launched in April 2012 with issue #86. Its current editor is Elaine Burrows. [1]
Film preservation, or film restoration, describes a series of ongoing efforts among film historians, archivists, museums, cinematheques and non-profit organizations to rescue decaying film stock and preserve the images which they contain. In the widest sense, preservation nowadays assures that a movie will continue to exist in as close to its original form as possible.
Henri Langlois was a French film archivist and cinephile. A pioneer of film preservation, Langlois was an influential figure in the history of cinema. His film screenings in Paris in the 1950s are often credited with providing the ideas that led to the development of the auteur theory.
Scottish Screen was the national body for film and television in Scotland, established in April 1997. It took on the functions of the Scottish Film Council, the Scottish Film Production Fund, Scottish Screen Locations and Scottish Broadcast and Film Training, forming a unitary organisation.

The International Federation of Film Archives was founded in Paris in 1938 by the Cinémathèque Française, the Reichsfilmarchiv in Berlin, the British Film Institute and the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.

The Korean Film Archive or called Korean Federation of Film Archives and KOFA is the sole film archive in South Korea with nationwide coverage. It was founded in Seoul in 1974 as a non-profit organization. In 1976 KOFA joined the International Federation of Film Archives (FIAF) as an observer, and gained its full membership of FIAF in 1985.

Cinemateca Brasileira is an institution located in Vila Mariana, São Paulo, responsible for the preservation of Brazilian audiovisual production. Centered on activities involving the storing, diffusion, and the restoration of its collection, it is one of the largest film libraries in Latin America and also one of its oldest, established in 1949 in the Film Department of the Modern Art Museum of São Paulo. It became a government institution in 1984 when it was incorporated into the Ministry of Culture. There are about 200,000 rolls of film, long, short and newsreels; 120,000 were reported in 1996 but it has since grown markedly. It also has a large collection of documents, books, journals, original scripts, photographs and posters. The website of Cinemateca Brasileira is one of the most authoritative sources on Brazilian cinema.
The Association of European Film Archives and Cinematheques is an affiliation of 44 European national and regional film archives founded in 1991. Its role is to safeguard the European film heritage and make this rich audiovisual records collected and preserved by the various film archives accessible to the public. ACE is a regional branch of FIAF Fédération Internationale des Archives du Film / International Federation of Film Archives. ACE members are non-profit institutions committed to the FIAF Code of Ethics.
Film International is a bimonthly academic journal covering film studies that was established in 2003. It is published by Intellect Ltd. and presents critical, historical, and theoretical essays on film, television, and moving image studies, including book reviews, interviews, and coverage of film festivals around the world. It regularly features film reviews, interviews with directors, actors, and cinematographers, as well as covering national cinemas on a country by country basis. The editor-in-chief is Daniel Lindvall and the co-editor is Matthew Sorrento. The contributing editors are Jessica Baxter, Jacob Mertens, Liza Palmer, Christopher Sharrett, and Tony Williams.
The Coordinating Council of Audiovisual Archives Associations (CCAAA) is an umbrella group of international private organizations working on audiovisual archiving. These professional organizations have a common goal of promoting and encouraging the preservation and the accessibility of the world's audiovisual heritage. The CCAAA member organisations work with many AV materials including: films, TV, radio, photographs and audio recordings.
